Hi, just finished my commando 750 s replica and wanted to share the moment. the frame is new modified to suit the earlier triple trees, the engine is a 72 combat motor with a 4s cam, i used a cush drive rear hub the cover plate has the grommets, andover norton slimline front guard and a fast back style rear guard as i didn't like the original look, everything sourced from friends and ebay and a lot of help from murray chamberlain, i love the metal flake pink, house of kolor call it fuchsia , any way it won't be every bodies thing but it does it for me cheers pete

That is a very nicely finished bike.

Never mind who might or might not like the paint, the bike is fine.

Looks pretty smicko to me... There is a few around Perth that are quietly being developed... Your gunna have to get those pipes a subtle shade of blue !!!!!! Good luck

Lookin' good. Fiberglass tank? If it's a metal tank do you still have the early fork stops and wonder how it works as far as the stanchions hitting the tank. My two cents is it would look better with the early style flatter seat on it. The S style looks good with an outrageous paint on it.

Bloody hell Peter, what did you go and post those pictures for!

I now think that my life won't be complete unless I fit S type high level pipes to mine.

Gotta be a candidate for the coolest production exhaust pipes ever I say.

Its a bit pink tho innit?!?

Wow, life is weird. I'm in the process of doing the same thing! :D

Big congrats to you, your bike looks absolutely peachy!!

Mines a '71 frame and engine + PW cam (frame is out for paint), had I not already got the tank and panels done in black and gold I'd have gone for exactly the same color, by House of Color. I might..ahem be tempted to change a couple of years  At the time I had the money, there just wasn't an 'S' up for sale, so I went with what I could find.

My only concession is not to mod the fame for the earlier Trip' trees. I figured on a mod to still use the halo around the headlight. Most of the hard work is done, tho I've still got to resurrect the original S seat.

Cheers,

S

Beautiful Pete,
You should have painted Kelvin's Thor in the same!

Clean. May I ask what make are the clutch, front brake and throttle assemblies and where did you get them?

Nice job, very nice bike.
But i dont like this seat, is not like S seat (only Leighton makes a good replica).
Ciao.

Boy oh boy, I really like that. In my eyes, as the Commando matured & became more reliable it also became more staid in appearance, which is a shame. Some of the differences are quite subtle (the warning light console, tail light, air box on the mk3 for example) but result in a less racy-looking whole.
This bike looks ace, lighter & faster looking. Wonder if I could do this with my mk3? Well done!

Hi really appreciate the positive comments thanks, dogt we welded the earlier type steering stops on a later pattern frame so no problem with clearance, its a fiberglass tank so its a little narrower at the front. diablouph the twin pull throttle is an amal type 77 copy and the levers are amal/doherty type 534 copies easy to find on ebay, mick believe it or not i tried to talk kelvin into putting a little metal in the thor paint but it had to be original painted in acrylic, ill attach a photo, an yes i agree with the comments regarding the seat, whats on it is andover nortons s type seat. leightons don't list one, if anyone knows where i can source something more original looking I'm all ears thanks peter

That is absolutely beautiful. I would actually like to see some more of the color in the seat area. Like those cafe style seats with a fiberglass pan extending back. The color is super ,just need more of it. MO is better. You did one outstanding piece of work there.

Leighton used to make the seat covers for the S type. I got one from Walridge in ON a few years ago. If you ask them, they probably have them, not popular though. The logo was gold on the back for the S models. They certainly look different, not like a banana. I like the Euro bars, I'd do it if I weren't so old.

About the seat, Andover is very clear and honest, they say the seat is not very like S type.
I bought one fom Leighton two months ago: they dont list it on the web but they build it, you can write to Andrew (info@rk-leighton.co.uk).
Tomorrow i will post a picture of the Leighton seat.
Ciao.

+1 on the Leighton seat, I also bought one a few months ago as well and it looks very close to the original as far as I can tell.
