Has anyone installed the S&S big bore kit in the new 650? I think it's 860 or 865 cc Thanks

That’ll be a ‘no’ then.

Please proceed and give us a detailed report...!

Seriously, I wish someone would, with the cams available and the big bore kits, these motors should be able to be turned into nice lively units.

A mate of mine has fitted a 2:1 pipe and the factory ‘race’ cam kit and reckons it has transformed it.

I keep telling him he should get it properly mapped but he won’t, I’m convinced that would help a lot. He’s read how the ECU will ‘self learn and adapt‘. I’ve told him that even so, it’s still trying to keep the thing Euro 5 compliant, so is definitely going to be running lean and will probably have flat spots programmed in at certain points for noise test requirements etc.

Thus far however I have also failed persuade him to go for the big bore…

I‘ll keep working on him !

The ECU will remap itself, unless someone can prove me wrong, that’s a load of BS.

A remap will transform it and get rid of the ‘emissions control‘ and assorted crap.

I believe it’s true for some systems, the ECU has a margin to adjust within. Changes to exhaust pipe, etc are therefore not dangerous like they used to be (holed pistons etc.

BUT, as far as I understand, this is NOT changing the map, rather the ECU is still only going to ‘correct’ back to the Euro 4 or 5 etc map settings.

Hence, a remap / re flash / piggyback really is required if you want the best out of your mods.

I put reverse cone pipes on my 650 Continental to get rid of the heavy Cat and it didn't totally adjust. Bought a Booster Plug and it alone made a big difference. I could buy the big bore kit but then you need the Power Commander and once I get into computers I'm lost.

You sure?

If I’m right, it probably DID I adjust. BUT it would only adjust back to the factory settings.

Fitting the boost plug would have richened things up beyond factory settings.

I’m fully with you ref the PC, IMHO having them set up on a Dyno by someone who actually knows their shit is the only way to do it.
