Not sure about the rotary IOM record, but the overall lap record is now north of 135 mph.

The Wankel engine was long after I left N-V. From the discussions I've had with a local NSU Ro.80 car owner, I get a strong impression that they are thirsty beasts compared to a similar-power piston engine.

Re "Just Noticed ! Theres NO BOARD for zee vankle !

Go steady there, it would soon be known as the wa**ers page :!:  :D

I remember the water cooled racers had respectable HP numbers back in the day - around 120-130.
They were very light weight due to lightness of the wankel engine itself.
But the rotors had overheating issues, and the rotor seals were junk after a couple of races.
I think with an infusion of some modern rotor seal tech, and environmental updates they could be a viable product.
As a race platform though, the wankel's best days are behind it.

The Norton factory is concentrating on the 1200 V4 project, which will probably provide the basis of their I.o.M. effort in the future.

I watched that video and I was horrified. You would not want to be the slightest bit uncertain about which way the road goes.

From what I have read, real-road racers at The Island memorize every bump, lump and pitch in the road, so knowing which way you're going next would not seem to be a problem.
