Hi all
With a Roadster tank fitted where exactly should the 5/16 front tank studs be positioned in the 1" support arms???
Because with the seat installed and the top shock bolts "fully home" in the seat mounting arms, the tank is pushed forward and studs want to be be at the very front of the 1" holes.
This then causes the painted area for the tank to contact the vertical faces of the front tank support arms
So do I take it that the seat mounting arms shouldn't be pushed fully forward against the shock bolts and the tank studs should be central in the front holes???

The holes are big for a reason, so the tank can be moved around to cope with all the inconsistencies in sizes, the brackets are renown to being variable and even on different levels from each other as an example. The seat has to sit on its own rubber buffers so if they are there and doing their job you need to 'adjust' the seat brackets to bring the seat back so the tank can come forward and/or add rubber washers to raise the front of the tank. The tank cannot touch any metal or the vibration/movement will eat away at the tank.

Thanks Kommando
Exactly, and that is the reason for asking.
So I take it from your response that the lower vertical face of the tank sits Behind the support bracket vertical face..... rather than the front of the tank packed out with rubbers to sit over it?
Oh and by the way the R/H support bracket is sitting higher by 4mm over the L/H...

On my Interpol tank the pocket at the front with the exhaust buffer I use sits over the bracket and the rear vertical face of the tank pocket clears the rear edge of the support bracket, but with those brackets being all over the place I can see where if they are too low and too far back then, unless removed and rewelded correctly, you would have no other choice but to raise the tank so it cleared the bracket. Is yours an Italian frame ? , they seem to be more variable than the UK sourced frames.

Some pics would be useful though, for your tank pocket rear vertical face to be near the brackets vertical face at the front seems extreme.

Just off to have my pacemaker tuned up....
I'll take some photos later
The imbalance of the support lugs I think can be taken out with additional rubber washers to. The low side....
But if the front face of the tank is to sit over the vertical face of the bracket, the studs may be too short??

I rounded off the mounting ears' corners slightly with a file because they were getting too close to the front of the tank as the rubbers settled. The studs are approximately centered in the big holes on my '72 Roadster.

Thanks Batrider, so I take it the front of tank just sits over the ears??

Yes. Also I forgot to mention that my seat is all the way pushed down on the slots. The seat has the fiberglass base. Tank is now an Emgo and fit is the same as the fiberglass original and an 850 metal tank I have as a spare. I added 1 extra rubber front and back to raise the tank to clear the CNW head steady.

I also usually round off the front edge of the support brackets on my Commandos.
This avoids the bracket eating the tank . And it lets you take advantage of the oversize holes to position the tank where you want it. Then touch up the filed surfaces with black paint.

Marked the high areas on the tank support brackets and attacked them with my Dremel..
Nice clearance obtained without weakening the supports

Interpol tank but would work on a roadster, exhaust mount rubber with a rubber washer next to the tank. The extra rubber washer lifts the whole mount rubber including the stud so you can still fit a nut. There is no metal to metal connection from the stud screwed into the tank or the stud for the nut so greater isolation that a long stud and a stack of rubber washers.
