I'd like to replace the rim tape on my rear wheel but I can't find a listing for it. Does it show up on the parts lists somewhere? I'd like to order from Old Britts if possible but they don't have a search function on their web site.

I did see that AN has them listed as PN 01.1090 but I'd like to get one quickly without waiting for UK post.

Also, the rear would have an additional hole for the rim lock. I'm sure I could punch a hole if needed, but I'd rater get an "official" Norton part if possible.

And no... I won't use duct tape.

Thanks Lab. Since the strip is only a dollar, I suppose I should take a look about and see if I can make it worth Ella's time.

Rim tape is not in my manual exploded diagram for front and rear wheels at all. The reassembly (refitting) instructions mention the rim band(s) though.

Are we talking about the thin strip of rubber that covers the ends of the spokes in the rim?

Things like tyres, tubes and rim bands were not considered to be factory replacement items so weren't included in parts books.

Commonly (now) called rim strips, available at any motorcycle dealership. If you have a 19" rim ask for a 19" rim strip. And, new joy, for those of you who rebuild light bulbs and Reynolds chain, and in a pinch (no pun intended) can be made from old inner tubes intended for wheel assemblies of smaller diameter. A .30 caliber spent cartridge case makes a very effective hole punch. Duct tape works, but is very inelegant...

Best.

As I stated in your rusty rim thread, I had rim strips included in the box of new inner tubes I got for the bike.

Funny enough, when I used to motocross European bikes, the first thing out of the crate was to take them apart completely and fix everything that needed it. One thing that always ended up in the trash was the “snake belly” rubber rim band because they weren't tough enough to resist a spoke poking through for very long, and they were easy to push over to the side during the weekly tire change, which rendered them useless. I always replaced them with—you guessed it—a couple layers of duct tape (torn lengthwise to fit in the rim’s drop center) because it was far tougher and wouldn’t slip out of place. Always used silver tape on dirt trackers and road racers too. Still use it on my road bikes. And it’s easy to punch holes in them for a rim lock and the tube stem with a Phillips screw driver. But, it’s not sano.

I've got a couple K of those NATO 7.62x51 punches bagged up. Never thought of using them for that though.

Of course best to use cases from AP rounds! :-)

I used duct tape because it doesnt move and it is always in stock. Probably causes rust...:-(

Thanks. I'll call the bike shop that I use for tyre mounting and inquire before ordering one from Ella.
The one that came off is probably original, but it looks to be serviceable other than being discolored. Maybe I'm overthinking this.

And I don't have any .30 cal casings, but do have a few .38's and .45 ACP around.

I've used duct tape exclusively also. Probably for the last 50 years at least. I had a flat on my X6 Suzuki roadracer back in about 1973 and one of the local track fast guys helped me change the tire. He sh*t canned the rim strip and replaced it with tape. I think that it was the old style electrical friction type tape. I've never used anything but tape since and boy howdy have I changed a lot of tires. All my dirt bikes, road bikes, and even my former and current bmx race bikes get the treatment.

In California I have to show ID and sign a registry in order to buy a hole punch.

duct tape or gorilla tape, then cut out the hole for the stem with an exacto knife.
