Hi guyz

I am rewiring my commando 74. I had an old wire harness and I had shorts with it.

I’m about to change the complete harness. Would it be a good thing to add a contact breaker before the negative pole of the battery by replacing the fuse?

i was thinking about a boat breaker that support water infiltration.

regards

If you have the new Lucas (Wassell) wiring harness, bear in mind there are two errors in the labelling that comes with it.

Corrections can be found here.

Personally, I see no reason to fit a breaker instead of a fuse.
It should never blow, and if it does, there’s something wrong that needs to be fixed.

I use automotive blade fuses instead of the original glass fuses, but that’s just out of personal choice.

I still have the glass 3AG fuse in mine. Taking the fuse out exposes a terminal that's just right for a battery charger clip. It also convenient for inserting my ammeter. I wish there was a blade fuse plug-in that would let me substitute a meter for the fuse.

@maylar I have a couple of these in my meter bags - they are superb!

I got them here but I’m sure other places sell them too!

I use 6.3mm male spade crimp terminals which fits in ordinary fuse holders. Don't work for the mini fuses where you can buy a mini fuse extension lead.
A DC clamp ammeter is very useful if you do a lot of electrical repairs.
For my favourite type of charger (CTEC) there is a quick connect extension with ring connectors for the battery. Very convenient for vehicles where the battery is hidden away, like modern motorcycles or some excavators and wheel loaders.
