Jacked the Norton Commando Mk3 front end up , removed front wheel, front fender, front caliper and brake line.

Removed top fork tube bolt and released the damper rod. removed the threaded collar and, without releasing the main fork tube, have everything off the bottom of the fork tube.

It appears the fork seal could be replaced with this method without the tedious removal of the main fork tube.

My only issue now is removing the square circlip at the bottom of the fork tube.

Turn the circlip so the gap is not over the notch then you can pry it out using the notch to give access to the back of the circlip.

Two small screwdrivers and a seal pick did the job.

Anyone using this method of resealing forks on a Norton, bottom up?

Appears a fork leg "bullet tool" would be best for reassembly.

Thank you ludwig, just used a local plastic cup successfully.

This is great info for me, since my seals need replacing and I have no garage to work in or really much space at all for bike maintenance /repairs. This looks like it will save me time and get it rolling again quicker. Thanks for posting. Cj

I used the old bushing as a driver, hack sawed in half longitudinally, worked well.

I tapped old , split bush with screwdriver and hammer around the flange as needed.

Please note the front of the Commando needs to be lifted higher than usual to allow the fork internals to slide out and back in.

I used a hydraulic jack with an aluminum bar to lift up the bike by the frame tubes. see Panera plastic picture
