I want to buy a new seat for my 1974 850 roadster and have been reading posts on here about which one is best and still not sure. I see where some have said Wassell from Norvil, and other say to get from Andover Norton or R k Leighton. I contacted them and Andover Norton said "Certainatly not Wassell brand. The seats we stock are of good quality and meet with our Norton QA high standards." R K Leighton said "These seats are our own." The seat from Leighton is $292 shipped here and Andover's is $330 shipped here. Norvil is $275 shipped here. Several dealers in the US want from $300-$380 for seats.

What are your thoughts?

Old Britts in WA is where I got mine from. It is an Andover Norton Seat and is of very nice quality, and their shipping is exceptional. My 1973 Roadster basket-weave seat is $295.00 plus shipping and I'm very satisfied with it.

I have purchased from RK Leighton complete seats for my model7 and 650SS and cover for my '70, all have been original style and top quality and I highly recommend them.

I got a 1972 Interstate seat from Norvil a few years back . Catalogue did not show it as Wassel, but it was. Metal seat pan does not have indentations for frame, so made it about 2 inches higher than original. I am 5'8" and could only put ball of feet on the ground, rather than all of both feet. I had to modify the mounting lugs to fit properly. After a short while I went back to the original, once I had replaced the hard foam. I would have returned the Wassel item, however I had modified the lugs so couldn't.

I've got another question. Why is the seat part # 06-5234 from Andover and from Norvile is 06-3676?

EDIT - I quoted these the wrong way around, now corrected.

06-3676 is a basket weave seat type seat cover, ONLY standard on the 1973 model roadsters.

06-5234 is for 1974 model roadsters, and later (but not for the Mk3 models). (lower pic)

There must be a dozen different types of seats, and part numbers, for Commandos. ?
If you are concerned with originality, and what looks right, and what fits, then the right part number is somewhat important...

reproduction seat question?

reproduction seat question?

the 06-5234 from Andover looks just like the bottom picture with squares on it but so does the picture others have sent me for the 06-3676 seat.

Sorry, I quoted those numbers around the wrong way - now corrected - above.

Seems a lot of folks just mix-n-match the numbers too.
Every 2nd mention is wrong ?
Andovers listing and showings are correct.
