That small change stuff fits in my jacket various pockets. On my fiber glass tanks I have vintage type the straps a click on'off base mount that looks kind of like vintage garter straps on gals. Other times I've rigged a back pack straps over big IS tank with cushion under to buffer items on tank finish.
This trip had a few fireworks and oil bottles and honey jar but yesterday carried big appointment book, half shoe box size of Norton parts, full size lap top and charger, half shoe box of new bungee cord, box with air traction collar and 3 long loafs of home made fresh french bread. Removes in few seconds, don't clutter the tank lines. Carnation supplied them back when : )
I use a small magnetic tank bag that I keep strapped between the rack and the seat. Perfect for glasses, gloves, fuel additive, set of bungie cords, etc. If I need to take it off and put on tank, it is attached with a couple Velro straps..... then when on tank, I can expand it for additional junk.
One of the reasons my fairing stays on over the summer is the small storage bag (Motorcycle Superstore, I think) that attaches.
The bag holds eyeglasses, card wallet, cell phone, insurance card, garage opener, etc., leaving my jacket and jeans unencumbered. The bag detaches easily and has a strap, so you can bring it with you while stopping for a bit of refreshment, if you don't mind the ribbing you'll get from your riding mates.
For those of us that run with clip-on bars, I've found a nice storage pack by TourMaster that easily attaches to your unused handlebar clamps. Sits right behind my Dunstall fairing and allows unobstructed view of instruments, off the tank so no scratches, easy to get in one-handed. Also easy to put on / take off....carries my basic tool kit, extra sparkplugs, sunglasses, $$, drivers license, etc.
An addition to my previous post...I've done the backpack thing too, but in Florida's summer climate it's just too hot to wear one. And what to do with it once you get to where you're going...especially to a "watering hole" as the subject thread refers to. However, on longer trips such as blasting over to the Vintage Races in Daytona...I have my trusty TourMaster, backpack and strap-mounted tank bag (fiberglass tank / no magnetic hold-down). Everything I need for a long weekend...tools, change of clothes, etc., etc. On another note, notice in the photo part of the "Nortoneering Group" that showed up at Daytona last year...in the photo there's my bike, Dave Ashenbrenner's 850, and Norton Billy's 850 InterContinental in the back....not pictured was Windy's (aka "bill" on this Forum) hot Combat and Dave Carter's stock (orange) high-rider.
