Guys,

I'm having trouble refitting the top end of my amal carburator. I was ging to try to put the throttle cable through the throttle valve first, then the needle and clip and then try to fit the spring around the throttle cable and put the chamber top on. Is there an easier way of doing this then trying to spin the spring around the throttle cable and possibly damaging the spring and/or needle?

What you're trying to do (if I'm reading it correctly) sounds impossible. You need to fit the cable inside the spring, pull the spring up with your index finger and then insert the nipple in the slide. Still holding the spring against the cap, you have to drop the needle with its clip into the slide and then let the spring gently back.

It's a fiddle and there is no easy option. These are fairly robust components though and the only real risk to the needle comes when you have to re-insert it in the spray tube.

Thank you I'm new to amal carburators, I really want to learn how to work on the bike myself, from the short time that I have owned the bike it seems I better learn fast.

I've got a tee shirt that says: "Norton Motorcycles, making expert mechanics out of ordinary men".
So true.

I find it helps to use the friction stop on the twist grip to compress the springs completely, providing a more compact assembly to offer into the top of the carburetor

I use hemostats to hold the spring compressed on the cable while assembling.

Go Figure. I extend the choke cable and allow the slide/choke slide as an assembly more flexibility idependant from the top cover, goes right in, clear the frame, slick as... well, you know

Ahhh broke the needle clip... it's a long weekend too crap crap crap on a crap cracker. Anyway, hope you have a relaxing Memorial Day folks.

Could still savage the weekend because that needle clip can give the illusion that it is broken. It is not a solid piece although one is tempted to think so as the tiny split is almost invisible. When you do notice it exists you swear and think you broke the clip.
