I rang one of our local [ I mean in town here ] suppliers where I live and enquired about the price of redline 20-50 oil. I was told something like $145.00 us quart including gst. I told the guy it would be cheaper to redo the engine every so often than use oil that cost that much. He recommended another brand they sold which was about 40.00 4l pack. Who do they think they are fcuking kidding. I wasn't his fault I must admit so I didn't mention what I was thinking. Another out of town outfit seemed to be selling red line 15-50 for about $60.00 US gallon. I used Caltex 20-50 for years till I moved up here.

It seems to me that there is and always be a cohort that thinks that top price is best.. And some are easily swayed/convinced by the "nice/charming" sales person...

For example, today was looking thru eBay for "mosfet" type aftermarket regulator/retifier for my Ducati project.. and prices for the FH020AA were from less than $100 up to $600+ ......... (genuine parts????) ... If your not a tight ol'basket with time to spare like me and do some research you end up paying..

Here in Italy have one REDLINE dealer, I have one oldest MG TD and one Austin Healey and have purchased for many time
the full synt 20-50 oil for the engine and WT90 for AH overdrive prices are high but reasonable- Quality are very good and
I have a lot of long trips without any trouble- now tax in Italy increased the price to overcome any convenience, I find one good substitute on SHELL full synt 10W-60- very good choice, I put it also in my Norton 850

I purchase the oil in Germany from a good ebayer -I don't know if SHELL 10w60 is arrived at the antipodes
but if you can find it in NZ , I can friendly suggest the use

I've been using Penrite in my air cooled BMW race bike and the Norton due to the extra ZDDP.

http://japrace.com/ uses to sell it, I bought a gallon off them the end of last year, $100.

buy Mobil 2 Vtwin @ Repco now.

I will check that out. Have account with them. just had a busy week. not been on this site for a few days.

All the best. Dereck

Damn, I pay US$15 a quart for Redline 20w50 and that's almost too much for me. Any air cooled engine oil is better than using modern automotive oils.

That's the trouble. You have plenty of people and competition in the states. We are "ill-fated"' to put up with greedy middling bastards here in NZ, as well as high freight bills.
Pun intended.

PS
I have been using oils like GTX and mainly Caltex 20;50 for years without any trouble. But I don't want to catch myself out like I did a stupid oil coot who purchased what he thought was the best oil available in 1955, and still using it in the late 70"s. What a Wnaka
