I would like a rear set for my Commando that does not have the loopy shift lever - does one exist or would I have to fabricate it myself? If I understand correctly the loop-lever is so constructed so as to allow clearance for the kick-start lever but I am going to remove the kickstart lever since the Alton E-start has assumed those duties for the past several years.

easy
1 reverse shift lever on gearbox
2 reverse rotation shift cam inside gearbox

Because the normal rearset is frame mounted and the gearbox end is isolatic mounted, I have seen a few bikes really eat up the gearbox shifter shaft and bushes due to the constant hammering and shaking from power train movement.

Is reversing the shift pattern simply a case of fitting a different cam plate?

Or not. At least with the reversed shift lever the pattern is down for down shift and up for up shift...more normal. The John Player Norton (factory replica) used this set up for rear sets and that shift lever is still available. It sticks out more Than the forward mount type.

Define normal
reverse shifter (pointing to rear) AND reverse cam keeps them norton NORMAL
therefore all my shift on right are the same.
With half a dozen nortons and 3 pre unit BSA, My normal is like all my bikes, not counting the 3 ducati or MKIII's

all my shift on left are the same.
I would not care to change and make 2 versions of shift on right.
each to his own.....

I'm in the process of fitting a "loopy" set of rearsets, I'd say you could get a straight bit made up pretty easy to replace it. :D

They appear to be metric as bolts are 10mm and the bush for the shift/brake is 18mm od and 15 id.
I'm hoping this set up gives me the riding position I want as can stand the feet forward so far.
