My Mk3 has rather tired rear shocks and I am considering all ofthe options. Looking for good sporting performance.

Anyone got any ideas/Views on good rear shocks for Commandos? Not sure I like the Hagon offering.

Thanks,

Luke

I'm using Progressive. Seem to be fine. They have different spring options too.

I have Koni's which are now Icon, very good and damp well. Hagon's are good except he needs to go on a basic marketing course as the silver ansd blue sticker is the tackiest thing I have ever seen on a product. Fortunately it peels off. My mate had a new pair of Hagons with stainless bodies on his Ducati Darmah last night. They looked very nice and cheaper than Icons.

I've considering Icons, but they are two hundred & odd quid, & we have just paid for our holiday.
Don't like my Hagons that much. There are people out there that keep that sticker on!

Does anyone else have a problem with Koni/Ikon clearance to the chainguard on an 850?

Do the other options have a bit narrower lower end?

No problems with my '74 MK2a here inthe US.

I bought NJB shocks from Clubman. Half-shrouded. Love em.

That's what I think I got without the shrouds. Plan on upgrading one of these days but wanted to get something on the bike so it would roll.

Yes mine are fouling the chainguard and so the chain is touching inside creating a whirring noise as it gets up to speed. Need to sort it. It didn't do it when I got the bike as it was on the hardest setting (short shocks).

I've had Ikons on for thousands of miles now and they really do make a big difference to comfort and handling. Expensive, yes, but rebuildable as well. They changed the design a while back so that clearance is not an issue now. Mine are of the later type. They are also the only shocks I've ever owned on any of my bikes where the spring preload is on the softest setting and works a treat.

Anyone know whether or not its possible to run gas pressurised shocks upside down (damper bodies downwards)?

I spoke with Ohlins America and told it does not matter which way gas or reservoir shocks or mounted expect it reverses the function of the damper adjustment knobs. I mounted Peel's temporary Nitro-air shock 'upside' down d/t the frame carpenter square pieces in the way. Shame about the chain guard fouling in some, hope that's sortable.

Ok...........just wasnt sure how well a shock was likely to function, if inverted and the piston was working in gas rather than oil? Reservoir type shocks generally have a bladder which contains the gas, so this doesnt present the same sort of problem as a single tube emulsion shock.

Hi to everybody.
I need suggestion :? about best option between NJB and HAGON to fit onto an old GUZZI ELDORADO.
Bike is quite heavy around 250 kgs and my weight is 100kg .
I never mounted these brands of shocks but they looks good and vintage enough for my project.
Thanks.

Steve, inverting the shock mounting won't reverse the function of the adjustment knobs. The shock is still compressed on bumps and extended on potholes, regardless of it's orientation. The compression adjustment knob will still control compression, and the rebound knob will still control rebound.

If the manufacturer or distributor can't help you with the question, then call Ikon! They will.
