A buddy of mine wants to put rear sets on his 72 Interstate. What options are available today, and I'm soliciting opinions of quality vs price.

Thanks

I have a Norvil set on mine. Decent quality although some fettling of screw holes was needed on mine. I've also added some Nylon shims to take out some slop, which isn't essential, but I'm picky. Finally the clevis joints on the linkage are easily replaced with rose joints. Again not essential and you can bend the rod instead.

Overall, they transformed the bike as I hated the riding position with the standard footrests. Paired with a set of Hyde M bars it's now perfect.

My thread on the Norvil units.

Another good thread is here

First choose your preferred Kickstarter eg factory or RGM folding T160 type and then choose the rearset that works with the kickstart.

Sound advice. Whether you use the Mk3 Kickstarter or earlier is also a factor.

I have CNW's on my '73 'fastback'. They are absolutely superb and I cannot say enough good about them. I looked at most of the available rear sets when shopping and the function/appearance/quality of the CNWs was exactly what I was looking for. Yes, they are more expensive than the others but I think they are well worth it!!! ONE thing to be aware of, the CNW set reverses the gear lever and, therefore, the up/down selection of the gears is reversed as well. I prefer that to the OEM shifting but YMMV! ;)

Thanks for that note. My buddy might care, though the price tag is probably more of an issue to him.
