I am gradually progressing through my MK3 rebuild. It's been a nightmare- so much is missing! Anyway I was wondering if a kind member (Les?) would take a few pics of their MK3 rear caliper setup and try to catch how the bracket goes for me? I cannot figure this out from the book. Does it attach to the lower shock bolt somehow? Any pics truly appreciated. thanks MK3 owners-

cheers-Jerry

Here is a pic of the bracket but a different caliper.

Ah- now it makes sense. That bracket is missing I think too...
Thanks for posting

Do you have the special lower shock bolt. The caliper is located and rides on it. It has a hat and 2 flats instead of a hex head.

If you are not worried about originality, you can shave a ton of unsprung weight with an increase in braking.

Thanks for the pics. I am trying to stay original though. Having said that where did you get those brembo's? I might change my mind.

Also I found my rear caliper bracket!
Now tell me more about the special bolt- photo's anyone?

I know where most things go on pre-mk3's and I have my Mk2 as a reference, but the rear braking is all new to me. Not that complicated though thanks to your photo.

Cheers

Well I was trying my hardest not to do this. Now I am losing control again. I really want the front and rear Brembo kits from Matt. I guess I have to sell a load of things now as it simply has to be done. Oh well off to garage to take some photos of bits to go on ebay lol

Although it isn't mentioned in the Mk3 manual or Mk3 riders handbook, always slacken the R/H lower shock mounting before adjusting the drive chain or the chain adjuster thread can strip because the caliper plate will not be free to move back with the wheel unless the shock mounting has been slackened.

Those Brembo kits are the shit Jerry! With the chrome calipers, they look real good on Cdo's.

I want the front kit but I don't like the chrome. To blingy for me but Matt said he can get me one in plain black. Hey Jerry, sending you a email about the get togeather photo thing, Glenn.

New calipers, master cylinder, and discs are available from Yoyodyne (http://www.yoyodyneti.com) Used are available from most any Italian sportbike. The alloy rear caliper mount is from a Ducati 900SS CR. Matt's setup is nice, but too much chrome for my taste, so I built my own. I use a Brembo master cylinder as well. Only requires a small mounting plate/adapter and uses a remote reservoir for a much cleaner look.

And just to add to the confusion of choices, Clubman Racing (and others I'm sure) offers a stainless true 13mm body that uses the OEM reservoir (body is not sleeved like normal for the front) that keeps it all looking stop, but helps the rear brake out just like a sleeved (or reduced diameter) front MC.

Seat of the pants feeling - back brake now feels like it can stop the bike vice just sort of slowing it down like it used to. Back in the day, I sometimes swapped a Norton ride for the occasional Harley chopper that did not have a front brake. There is no way I would have used a stock rear Norton Disc system in the old "daze" chopper configuration.
