A factory service release does show that arrangement, however I don't think I've ever seen a factory photo of a Commando where the cable goes between the plates, it always seems to be routed behind the inner plate.

thats the way i have it set up the way you discribed it however on the kick start side the mounting plate is mounted on inside of z plate for kick start clerance. if i mount plate on inside, lower rubber mount stud and nut rub on brake cable. if i leave as is left muffler is at differant angle than right. not that big of a deal, but
thanks mike

Sounds as if the brake cable could be too long?

Presumably you do have the brake cable routed over the Z plate, not under it?

Difficult to tell for sure, but I get the feeling from looking at a previous photo of yours that the brake cable is running under the Z plate?

rear brake cable routing

If so, then that can be dangerous and needs correcting ASAP.

My rear sets from CNW seem to require that my brake cable runs through the muffler brackets. You see any problem with that?

If you think that's the best route for it, then it should be fine.

No problem with that. You have a unique custom cable made by Barnett (much shorter than the stock cable) and it is designed to run right between the muffler bracket and the also special inner exhaust mount plate that allows it to go right to the swing arm cable stop. Shorter cable and less bends by design.

This set up has nothing in common with the factory one.

Enjoy
