Would call it a blow out, but it didn't blow. Coming home from a small weekend bike get together yesterday, the rear tire went POOF, at around 70 mph. After quite a few slides and other "fun" got it stopped. Doesn't appear to have any exterior damage to the tire so I reckon I need a new tube for my Avon. Question is, what size do I need and where is the best place to look?

The tube will be listed for a tire size or range of sizes, so you should look at the tire size first. Then head to the cycle shop, or go online. Everybody seems to have a favorite. I am running Bridgestone tubes right now because they are easy to get where I live and so far haven't pissed me off.

I have heard the stores of "The Motor Company" whose name shall not be mentioned here, carries a nice selection of tubes. But If you go in there without their tattoo somewhere on your person they might not help you, so beware

I would have a good close look at why your tube suddenly deflated and correct before you put a new tube on that wheel. Sudden deflations are not very cool.

Make sure none of your spokes are protruding above the nipples. If so, they must be ground down flush with the head of the nipple. And absolutely run a rim-strip. Rubber, or even a folded strip of gaffer's tape works well and protects the tube from sharp edges.
Check the stem that it wasn't being pulled.

True, HD dealers carry quality Made in Japan Dunlop tubes that fit, am using one myself (and even a HD/Dunlop front tire too, also works well).....FWIW they carry good Dunlop rim strips too

I totally agree, sudden deflations are NOT fun...... I haven't taken the wheel off yet. When I do, I plan on doing a thourough investigation on the cause of this deflation. Want to get all the parts together in one pile before I take her down.

Currently running a 100/90-19 Avon on front and rear. I was just wondering if one brand has a better reputation over another..... ie: michelin, dunlop, etc.
