Racing Set To Return To Scarborough's Oliver's Mount 2019

Scariest race track I've ever been to (spectating, not racing). Looked like it might be fun if you were on a small bike, but hard to believe they were racing superbikes there.

My friend used to work for QANTAS and shipped his Vincent road race sidecar from Australia to the UK as aircraft spares. He raced at Oliver's Mount and says it is the best race track on the planet.

It was a round in the NHCA hillclimbing calendar run by the Auto 66 club not so long ago which I used to do for about 10 years. While it's fine for a one at a time runs I wouldn't fancy sharing it with loads of other bikes. I did go to an international race meet there in 1977 (Cock o' the North) when Grant, Sheene, Hennen and co where racing. The view from a spectator point of view was pretty crap back then as the hedges were quite thick and high.
Oh, and that padding strapped to the tree trunks is there to protect the trees from errant motorcycles.

Re;” Oh, and that padding strapped to the tree trunks is there to protect the trees from errant motorcycles.”

The way British race tracks used to be, damp patches where the sun doesn’t shine, slow worms and fast !? Hedgehog going across the track, deaf wood pigeons rostering on the trees who appear to smile because they can watch the race for free, what’s not to like ? - No wonder the riders who race there take a change of underwear!

Ah, yes...that worm. Wasn't that one of Bazza's excuses there once?

Oliver's Mount is obviously a riders' circuit. I love them. I rode at Mount Gambier when it was almost a goat track. I really enjoyed it. The guys with the oversize motors often find themselves at a disadvantage. On a big smooth circuit, the biggest fastest bikes always win. On a circuit such as Oliver's Mount, the average guys can really do some good for themselves.
