    Hi
As the title says I am in need of a 5 speed Quaife mainshaft for a Commando. I have thread damage to the clutch nut area. It probably will not cope with being stripped down again. The Rickman is being loaned out for parades this summer need a spare shaft to keep it out there on 5 gears.

    Thanks Chris

If your sleeve gear has bronze bushes you should be able to use a regular Commando mainshaft. The splined portion of the Quaife shaft is slightly longer because the sleeve gear is narrower but that shouldn't affect operation.

    Hi john
Thank you. That is most interesting! Never knew that. I will sort out a shaft to take with me as a spare. My box does have bushes in the sleeve gear, Strangly my Triumph Quaifes have needle roller?

    All the best Chris

    Hi Madass John

When I got the box I found the bushes are scrolled on the Quaife. Micky Hemmings told me to put in two Commando bushes & cut the length to suit. The later Quaife sleeve gears with needle rollers have a better housing for the oil seals.
