I picked up a Memphis Shades windscreen from the local bike shop and mounted it on my Roadster. It's very nicely made and I think it looks great, but I'm disappointed in the way it behaves on the road. This is my first experience with a screen so I'll ask a few questions here.

Wind off the top of the screen hits me squarely in the face. I wear a full face Arai helmet that's normally extremely quiet, but the turbulence I'm getting sounds like a hurricane. I can hardly hear the Norton.

My hope was that the screen would protect me a bit and make highway touring less tiring, and maybe even deflect rain over my head. That's not what I got. Maybe I chose the wrong screen?

I have it adjusted so it angles back toward me, and haven't yet experimented with that. Should these things be straight up? What kind of experiences do you guys have with these things?

Question for those with windscreens

After having owned several motorcycles with windscreens, I have a preference for one that is adjusted so the air is deflected to a point over my head. I do not like to look through the windscreen as some do, riding behind it and looking through it like sitting in a car. With one, I have it adjusted so it just hits me above the eyebrow of my helmet, no buffeting, but still great vision.

I say tinker around with it to get the adjustment the way you like it. I believe there was a company that made some air deflectors that mounted on top of a windscreen, but their name escapes me.

Yours looks very similar to the smaller one I ran on Ms Peel through thick and thin. You must play with the angle so it deflects wind a inch or more above your forehead to allow looking over the screen, though can still duck down in rain and hail and grit filled air and heavy duty bugs, all of which can pass to eyes w/o protection. Also depends on your ride position and how tall you sit. I'm 6'3" and like the upright puppy posture but find joy with your size screen once aimed right, which is still pretty much at same angle as forks. There are add on air deflectors and also vents that let some air in behind screen to streamline it more and not suck as much air back in your face. But its a motorcycle and motorcycler so you know you got to waste time and money before you get it right for you.

Some complain that wind screens bother the handling but both mine just acted like fork dampers making it a bit harder to steer at speed but also dampening out semi truck blasts and general wind gusts. I liked it.

Weak link in a lot of these screens is the mounting hardware so good luck with that or adapting you own.

I too have a Memphis Shades wind screen like yours. I have tried virtually every mounting position and angle that the mounting hardware will allow and have been unable to keep the helmet buffering down to a level I can tolerate. It does come off easily so mostly I ride without it. I have been thinking of cutting it down somewhat in hopes that the air will hit me low enough to not have the helmet buffeting. Anyone tried that?
