Push rod advice

Fitting up the FA head. One of the pushrods is quite rough on the ball. The rest seem ok. How critical are these? Can I just give it a buff or do I need to replace my pushrods?
The roughness is spherical lines on the ball face that mates with the lifter on my left hand inlet rod
 
I would replace. And check the others carefully too, inc at the rocker end.
I think the design can fall victim to past mechanics with a lack of cleanliness. Mine had a piece of gasket material sitting squashed in the cam follower cup. I wonder how the PO worried as the tappet clearance opened up as the gasket materiel squashed over time?!
But in general, dirt and detritus can easily fall into the pushrod tunnel on assembly, and sit in the cups, grinding away!
This may have happened to yours. It would seem a shame to 'spoil the ship for a hapeth of tar' having come this far.
 
One rough face will start to wear the other leading to ever increasing problems with valve clearance. An if you have gone to the trouble and expense of a new cylinder head then why compromise it with worn parts.
 
So is he opinion a polish will suffice? If I can get 5-10k miles out of these ones I'll do that as I would prefer to go to radius cam or axtell and steel rods in the next few years.

No, its not gonna go bang cos of a worn cup.

But it may continue to wear, cause grief, etc.

It's your P&J so its your prerogative. I'm simply saying that in your postion, I would replace the offending article.

If the marks/scars are below the main spherical surface as usually the case then polish a bit off the slight hi spot to run your pride & joy a long time as something else will stop the show before your ball end does. Its significant scratches and abrasion on the Al post that matter more but pretty rare.
