So, a colleague of mine got a bit of a cough and ‘felt a bit funny’. So, he cut a fresh onion in half and could hardly smell it. He put a spoon of HP source in his mouth and could hardly taste it (for none Brits, that’s a strong sweet / spicy sauce). Bugger he thought. He’s getting tested properly today, but it seems likely he’s got it.

That‘s the 3rd person I know who's caught this thing in recent weeks. And until recently I knew no one who’d had it. What I find interesting is that none of them have, as far as they can recall, done anything different to normal. All of them are highly focused on mask wearing, hand washing, distancing.

I know it’s a bit unscientific, but I can’t help but look at my small sample size of friends and compare to the global situation. In countries around the world, where masks are compulsory, and hand washing and distancing is widespread, as are screens in shops, etc, etc. quite suddenly covid has taken an upturn. Even in countries with zero physical connection, the trends are remarkably similar.

It appears to suggest the virus has mutated IMHO, but how can it mutate simultaneously in different regions ??

Wearing masks helps not transmitting the disease if you have it. It doesnt help so much not catching it. 60% of transmissions come from 8% of infected patients.

As you point out viral mutation in the same way in different regions is unlikely. I think behavior is changing.

Not really until more evidence appears, the virus appears to be seasonal, clues are its persistence in cold meat processing plants over summer possibly coupled with reduced defences in humans from as an example lower levels of Vit D, this means people who in July did not get infected can be infected now.

The Covid virus has changed little in comparison to flu the changes are minor and if you discount the minor changes you are left with 2 main variants. This bodes well if an effective vaccine is found, even if its needs to be taken annually the vaccine will not need to be changed, unlike with flu where the vaccine is based on a best guess of future variants 12 months out. A recent Flu vaccine (2018 or 2019 ? ) missed out a new variant that appeared in Australia, too late to be included for the northern hemisphere vaccine.

As far as Trump is concerned, he has frequently shown himself up and appears to never look at himself in the mirror when he comes to making political statements re the time he contacted concornivirus and then came out of hospital stating that it was no problem and that he suddenly became a world leading expert because he had a long conversation with the doctors treating him.
Yes, he certainly has a brass neck, but, as my previous statement about not being immune for very long from it , the next time it may become more serious.
You can take you socialist views and keep them to your pitiful self.
The personal freedoms we enjoy here (I’ve travelled the world, Skippy) are something we treasure, and will staunchly defend them.
Socialism will be rejected firmly by the working people of the USA.

All well and good, I mean good for you, so we can expect that should an coronavirus prevention injection be found, you can bet your pension it will be so expensive that only the very rich will be able to afford to have it.
Your selflessness knows no bounds.

May I respectfully suggest that you guys go and argue somewhere else?

64 pages so far in this thread of mostly healthy debate and expressions of differing opinions...

Shame to lose it all because of this little spat.
Yes it’s getting close.

You have to wonder.
If you flew in from overseas going back to the early part of the year you would go into quarantine (as you would do in Australia including now) if you test negative at the end of 14 days you are free to go.

Lets translate that.
No one denied "Kiwi's have fenny eccents. :D

There seems to have been a lot of misinformation in general regarding the virus and what to do.
Stay safe and please do not get caught up in the hype.

As posted, it drives it home when it is an old school mate who has passed away and hoped to catch up with.
I saw on one programme, a woman in the USA who lost not only her husband but both her parents.

One thing that has been mentioned is, it is unknown if you are 100 % immune after recovery and any long lasting effects are still unknown at this stage.

My friend said the other day 'I don't know anybody who has got the virus - do you know anybody ?'. - It is impossible to prove a negative - to prove that but for certain actions what could have happened did not happen. When you manage a risk, you don't usually see anything for your actions. - So was there ever a threat ?

Well you have but a week to go for the current election in the USA. Both sides carry on and it sure is tedious. But the bottom line on all of this is: you have two candidates to vote for. Pick one. Good bad or indifferent you get to pick one of the two on offer.
Nothing else matters. This is all you get to do.
Ill check in next week and see how it went!
Where I live in Virginia, there is a third presidential candidate on the ballot. Usually there are more. Other states may have more. The Libertarian candidate is on the ballot in all 50 states.

Covid is spreading " significantly" faster through England than even the government's worst - case scenario documents reveal.
The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies ( Sage ) says there are four times as many people catching Concornivirus than anticipated.
It had estimated 85000 deaths from Covid over the course of the winter.

Looks to me like it's surging through the Midwest USA as we speak. My wife is not feeling well tonight, I'm worried. since we're both in our mid to late 70's it's not a great time. I'd love to get on with it, but for the moment, I'm not going into a resturant with lots of people, I walked out of one last week, but my friends went in. I do stay away from people and wear a mask, plus wash my hands heavily when I come in the house, my wife is a bit slack. But I'm also a Luddite and recluse so that helps, at least me. Living in a remote area helps, god help those in concentrated places.
