I would far prefer politicians to listen to the scientific advice rather than going by their gut instincts.
If I listed all the incorrect things things the "scientific " people have said, it would overwhelm the internet.

You have already forgotten what the experts at WHO said early on, when they knew it was a lie, along with others.

He is just the latest.

I would not be holding the current CDC guidelines up as an example of science based guidance. There is much evidence the US administration has muzzled their communications and reworded their recommendations to fit with political motives.

Who would you use as a science example?

The CDC would be the leading place for guidance but as ive stated, thier leadership has not been able to protect their message from political corruption. MSNBC had a large portion of their broadcast lastnight detailing how the CDC's rapid response health team's report on a major covid outbreak at meat packing plants in the US was altered by federal officials after it was given to local health authorities and re-released with all must do mandates changed to "encouragements".

WHO has a lot less risk of being manipulated by some political entity.

Here is their public guidance site:

There was a theory being bandied about that children had milder cases and more asymptomatic infections than adults due to most receiving the MMR vaccine, but recently it was realized that childrens' immune systems produce more and better grade cytokines which react to immune response by attaching to and killing viruses. Children have more protection due to their otherwise higher vulnerabilities, as a natural defense, I suppose.

And then there is this, point by point, debunking of the claims against WHO, not put out by politically motivated sites:

Of course all people are biased, we agree on that, including this guy, Peter Hadfield.

I listed left leaning sites as well as right leaning sites.

Here is an example of a WHO advise. This is from His list of sources.

WHO does not recommend any specific measures for travellers. WHO advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions on China based on the information currently available. Source WHO

https://www.who.int/news-room/artic...onal-traffic-in-relation-to-covid-19-outbreak

If WHO is just going to Parrot what China says, who needs them. And that is exactly what they did.

WHO declared the outbreak a global pandemic on March 11, a timing it justified on the basis that the disease had reached a point where it had taken hold in enough countries around the world, besides China, where it originated. Source USA Today

A little late.

But this is exactly what makes science so powerful - there are no (or at least _very_ few) absolute truths. You observe, then create a theory, test it, do peer reviews, if it fits then you use it until someone else comes along with a better theory. This is why knowledge has expanded at such a fantastic rate since the Reformation lifted the dead hand of religious doctrine which could not be challenged.

Unfortunately, many people seem to have entered a state of reversion, where it's more convenient to deny or ignore science when it points to uncomfortable things. Climate change for example.....

In Sweden, schools from 1st to 9th class was open. After the age of 16, schools and universities was closed.
Restaurants and pubs has regulations limiting number of customers. Cultural and sports events was prohibited. Distance work is common. There was a ban on non necessary travel. Gatherings has a number limit. Social distancing, hand washing and stay at home if you have symptoms is recommended Since most Swedes are law abiding and used to do as the government tells, strict enforcing has not been required.
Masks is not recommended for general use.
Now we have a reasonably low increase of cases and deaths.
So far, we have done worse than most other European countries but better than the US.
The final outcome of this pandemic is still unknown.

I 100% agree. But the current situation doesn’t fit in with that explanation.

Scientists and ‘Experts’ are voicing their opinions (yes, opinions) before their opinions have been tested, or submitted to peer review etc. We (or perhaps the media) have short circuited the process, and thats why we have scientists suggesting polar opposites. That in itself is actually normal, but would normally happen ‘behind closed doors’ within the scientific community.

Even the famous / infamous Neil Ferguson ‘Paper’ which was the primary factor in the U.K. govt deciding to go into lock down was NOT a published paper and had NOT been subject to peer review and HAS subsequently been heavily criticised for its assumptions and the hypothesis generated by those assumptions.

And that’s why all sides of the debate can all ‘prove’ their point as they can all (ok, almost all) find a scientist which ‘proves’ their point !

There will be a scientific paper written in 10 years that will get close to the correct reaction to the virus. Until then we have a series of hypothesis being made which need to be tested in the field, we are all guinea pigs. As I said earlier in the post.

Its not over until the fat lady sings.

And keep taking the Vit D.

I think you'll find the fat lady comes under: 'Underlying health issues'.... so she may well check out before the rest of us...

Even given the current shifting course & strategy that we see in most countries, I would far prefer politicians to listen to the scientific advice rather than going by their gut instincts.

With a big election on tap, most politicians don't have any guts to consult. They're too caught up in what their polls say the voters are about to do.

The Fat lady is likely to have low Vit D levels as the fat retains the Vit D and stops it from circulating in the blood, if she takes extra Vit D pills she will be around to sing ;)

Maybe, but the fat lady will be asking for trouble if she walks around and sings her lungs off if she doesn't wear a face mask!
One thing we do know without question is that this virus is airborne, and to quote a very old quotation, prevention is better than the cure. . .

Having now been told the second wave isn't as bad as it 'could' have, I see we're now being warned about the third wave.....
Poor old virus will have a sore arm at this rate, but as far as the headlines go, as Private Eye used to say: 'This one will run and run'

Joke of the day; the Chinese scientist have found the feeding breast milk from someone who had recovered from Covid19 could make you immune from the virus.
No offence to the Chinese, but they also said that pagolin on toast was a good idea, and should not be believed.
