Bottom line is, just as we've become reliant on China for a lot of consumables. Can we/will we change that?
And so we've become reliant on imported labour for many jobs we 'don't like'. Can we/will we change that?
Agreed, the second is open to exploitation, but did we create the environment for it to flourish??

There is a chicken factory in Wales where a lot of the workers were found positive for Covid 19 the government were forced to act and close them down.
Too little too late! Our government seem to be in league with the Thatcherite entrepreneurs responsible. Can't see BoJo and his cronies changing anything. Unless there is a game change to socially responsible business practice being encouraged it will continue.

Same thing is going on here in the US. The companies (I'll name Smithfield) are complaining that the Hispanics are causing the pandemic by all living together. But somehow they seem to forget they are only paying them $7.50/hr. at best. Not enough to live on. Even the racist Henry Ford knew that if you didn't pay your employees enough, they couldn't afford the product. When do we learn?!

Thatcher, Attila the Hen?

Now, now, a Living Wage is a way for us to help protect the most vulnerable in society, therefore lowering governmental burden (more income taxes, more GST collected, lower social program uptake, etc.), and thereby Protecting Yourself (as this is the title of the thread...).

The Wall closed... but the other way.

Oh. The. Irony. It. Burns.

We need one along our southern border. Americans are entering Canada under an exemption that permits them to pass through to get to Alaska or other otherwise cut off American locations near the border. There have now been many reports of Americans in places like Banff and various campgrounds boasting how they fooled the border guards and are having a nice vacation. Some have been forced to isolate for two weeks under watch by local authorities. Others have been charged with violations and given $1k fines, sent home.

There was a time when library books contained a form which you had to fill out if any of your household had certain diseases...

Can somebody explain the logic of compulsory face masks while shopping (in ten days time, mind you), yet pubs and restaurants re-opening??
I would suggest our politicians 'road test' various masks on our behalf, to see which (if any) is best for stopping the crap coming out...
Or is that just me being cynical?
