From a reprint of an article that appeared in Scientific American.

New research suggests that events happening worldwide are nurturing underlying emotions that make people more willing to believe in conspiracies. Experiments have revealed that feelings of anxiety make people think more conspiratorially. Such feelings, along with a sense of disenfranchisement, currently grip many Americans, according to surveys. In such situations, a conspiracy theory can provide comfort by identifying a convenient scapegoat and thereby making the world seem more straightforward and controllable. “People can assume that if these bad guys weren’t there, then everything would be fine,” Lewandowsky says. “Whereas if you don’t believe in a conspiracy theory, then you just have to say terrible things happen randomly.”

While humans seek solace in conspiracy theories, however, they rarely find it… For one thing, conspiratorial thinking can incite individuals to behave in a way that increases their sense of powerlessness, making them feel even worse. A 2014 study co-authored by Jolley found that people who are presented with conspiracy theories about climate change—scientists are just chasing grant money, for instance—are less likely to plan to vote, whereas a 2017 study reported that believing in work-related conspiracies—such as the idea that managers make decisions to protect their own interests—causes individuals to feel less committed to their job. “It can snowball and become a pretty vicious, nasty cycle of inaction and negative behavior,”

A vicious cycle. Protect yourself. Get off the treadmill.

I take it you are waiting for your third shot or will it be number 4 ?
(Pfizer pills are on the way)
Your discussion article you presented is weak as piss
Check out the pending Court case thats about to explode with the Australian Government ...another lot of conspiracy theories...??
486 dead Australians from the Pfizer clot shot and tens of thousands of adverse reactions along with government caught out censoring the media...in real time...
Nothing like a possible High/Supreme Court case to weed out the conspiracy theories or the FACT deniers

That’s an interesting article about conspiracy theories.

I particularly relate to this part:

“a conspiracy theory can provide comfort by identifying a convenient scapegoat and thereby making the world seem more straightforward and controllable. “People can assume that if these bad guys weren’t there, then everything would be fine,”

This fits with a theory I have about social media in general. So much ‘fake news‘ or at least ‘random information‘ gets spread so rapidly and spirals out of all proportion. It seems to me that rather than forwarding the human race, it’s putting us backwards.

Seems to me we’re going back to medieval times where someone gets called out as a witch, with zero actual evidence, but things spiral until the victim ends up burnt at the stake. And then it becomes a ‘movement‘…

The trend to gossip and conspire and split into tribal belief structures I find very interesting, and more than a tad scary. We had supposedly developed out of this. We clearly have not.

Lord of the Flies anyone…?

Lord Of The Flies..... Jeez, another part of my education which has left an indelible blank!! I know we read it, along with: 'Cider With Rosie', 'A Kestrel For A Knave' and various other 'classics', most of which have dropped from my conscious memory..
But, agree totally that there is a: 'If it's in print it MUST be true' mentality for a lot of people. More so now as there is such a plethora of media platforms for us to be 'influenced' by...

'War Of The Worlds', anybody? :)

In my short time on this Earth, I have found those who argue with ad hominim and distraction fallacies tend not to be arguing from a position of actual knowledge.

"additional cases of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS [or, "shot clots" as some call them]) bring the total number reported in Australia to 112 (62 confirmed, 50 probable) from the approximately 8.1 million doses of AstraZeneca administered up to 15 August.

Six of these cases have proved fatal, meaning only 0.000074% of AstraZeneca doses have been linked to a person dying in Australia as a result of TTS.

If this is true, that is great. Natural immunity is 27x better at preventing one from catching covid than vaccination. Superb.

> 99.5% of Delta variant deaths are unvaccinated.

Odds say, take the shot.

Your linked article states:

"The staff of the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday declined to take a stance on whether to back booster shots of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine, saying U.S. regulators haven’t verified all the available data.

“There are many potentially relevant studies, but FDA has not independently reviewed or verified the underlying data or their conclusions,”

I dont understand what your point is. Other than perhaps teh click-bait nature of the headline?

Again, this is click-bait.

I went to the article you referenced which linked the Public Health Scotland data study it cites, which in turn clearly says, "The analysis includes all recorded deaths due to any cause and does not refer to deaths caused by the vaccine itself." (my emphasis)

This is the same correlation "logic" you have referenced before.

“a conspiracy theory can provide comfort by identifying a convenient scapegoat and thereby making the world seem more straightforward and controllable. “People can assume that if these bad guys weren’t there, then everything would be fine”...

There are always two sides to a story, there are the true believers and the disbelievers at the begining it was stated we have to fight this virus but so far its getting out of control, now they are sayin we need to learn to live with this virus because of its spread through out the world, but one thing that no one has answers to or want to know the truth is how it started, we all know where it started but who, what and how did it all start, there have been major cover ups and the average Joe Blow will never know the answers, we will never get the truth from how it started, and then there are the people who started to come out with facts have disappeared, I think the whole world needs to know the truth instead of BS or fake news, stop the cover ups and get the whole world working together to find a answer to rid the world of this virus instead of fighting each other, but that will never happen West vs East same old story.
I want to live to a very old age, I want to see grand kids, I want to just enjoy life in my retirement years, but seeing what's happening in the world today and for a long time will I get to live to 105, with the way things are going we might be heading to the dark ages again, if its not wars it viruses that will kill us all, not old age.
I am so over all the BS I just like to have answers and to enjoy my life and ride my bikes till I can no long ride and to watch my kids grow old, the truth is out there, somewhere, but in the mean time I will live in my bubble, my life and avoid crowds, I no need to travel overseas and will stay in my own backyard for the time being.

"[F]alse conspiracy theories have several hallmarks, Lewandowsky says. Three of them are particularly noticeable. First, the theories include contradictions. For example, some deniers of climate change argue that there is no scientific consensus on the issue while framing themselves as heroes pushing back against established consensus. Both cannot be true.

A second telltale sign is when a contention is based on shaky assumptions. Trump, for instance, claimed that millions of illegal immigrants cast ballots in the 2016 presidential election and were the reason he lost the popular vote. Beyond the complete lack of evidence for such voting, his assumption was that multitudes of such votes—if they existed—would have been for his Democratic opponent. Yet past polls of unauthorized Hispanic immigrants suggest that many of them would have voted for a Republican candidate over a Democratic one.

A third sign that a claim is a far-fetched theory, rather than an actual conspiracy, is that those who support it interpret evidence against their theory as evidence for it. When the van of the alleged mail bomber Cesar Sayoc was found in Florida plastered with Trump stickers, for instance, some individuals said this helped to prove that Democrats were really behind the bombs. “If anyone thinks this is what a real conservative’s van looks like, you are being willfully ignorant. Cesar Sayoc is clearly just a fall guy for this obvious false flag,” one person posted on Twitter."

And no, I am not trying to morph this into a Global Warming or Trump debate. These are someone else's examples, not mine.

Take a look at what's happened in Israel the country was massively vaccinated and now people are getting sick again...the point is mass vaccination can cause the original disease to mutate ..Delta variant ring any bells.?
Phifer have a new vaccine they are about to roll out next week for the delta strain...Whats happening now is a vaccineoligists worst nightmare
Try searching information using Duck Duck go...far more comprehensive
Sinice you are fond of citing Israeli results.

"At least 12 days after the booster dose, the rate of confirmed infection was lower in the booster group than in the nonbooster group by a factor of 11.3 (95% confidence interval [CI], 10.4 to 12.3); the rate of severe illness was lower by a factor of 19.5 (95% CI, 12.9 to 29.5). In a secondary analysis, the rate of confirmed infection at least 12 days after vaccination was lower than the rate after 4 to 6 days by a factor of 5.4 (95% CI, 4.8 to 6.1)."

With almost 8 billion people on the planet I think we are the problem. Like a plague of rats something has to happen to reduce the numbers.
