Original PRs used a Jubilee Clip ("hose clamp" to us Yanks) around the slider. The original was a dull silver finish (cad or zinc plated). Norton part number was 063955.
Same purpose as any other front fender, Steve, to reduce the amount of water, gravel, dirt, etc. thrown onto bike by front tire. Just reduced in size and weight to suit a race bike.
Ok I guess racer spray only comes off in a thin line w/o the splashing and trashing mine get get even with factory fender plus mud flap. I thought maybe there was a race rule these fenders just barely satisfied.
For Peel I've the next plastic rounded contour size up, drilled and fitted now and being tugged on by a tie up to un-distort its storage twist then will fit a big mud flap in front of the splash plate. I've had so many bodges with hose clamps on various things I don't like seeing them used on bikes on purpose.
They can also keep the front brake line from getting eaten up by the front tire. Not sure if it was an issue with the PR, but I've seen it with other bikes.
Gee I'd of thought they were too skimpy and unsupported to hold the hose off for long or just rub tire instead of hose, which would be more to replace dt wear though. May be traditional proper but the sharp angular form don't follow the rest of the curves flavor to me.
