dear All,
yesterday I had a problem with my bike: while I was tickling the carburators, one of the buttons started to flow gas as a tap of a sink (!), leaving an incredible stain on the road.. furthermore, I really condln't stop the flow (or the flush!) until I closed the petcocks..
Then, I started to close the petcocks, but no way: when I opened them again the carburator flew again gas. In particular, I noticed this when opening the reserve petcock and the gas was coming out from the right button.. (not from the left)

Of course, the spark plugs were completely wet and then I coudn't start the engine
.. the only thing I could do was pushing the bike home (and I was not so close!) :o((

Any idea of someone who may had the same problem?

Thanks to All for helping!

The tickler has stuck. The tickelr depresses the float allowing fuel to flow into the bowl. When it sticks the float needle cannot return to its seat and fuel will overflow the bowl and flood the engine.

You will need to disassemble the carb and remove the tickler. It is probably bent, but it could have a broken spring, etc. Replacement tickler kits are available from most Amal suppliers.

I prefer the big button ticlers, so I replace the early styles as a matter of course.

Overflowing fuel is also a symptom of a flooded float, which can't rise enough to close the shutoff needle--if you remove the carb bowl you'll be able to see whether the plastic float has fuel inside

Your float might have sprung a leek. Or you have something clogging the float needle. If it is the float then change out to the new float http://www.amalcarb.co.uk/ProductDetail ... 1&id=37372
If it an old style plastic float needle then replace it with viton tip version (same as the add above). If it was particulate clogging the needle valve and the seat then consider replacing the filters in the tank and the Amal fuel filter. Hope that puts you on the right path of recovery.

thank you!
is this one of the filters you are mentioning? if this is the case, should I buy a set for each carburator or this is already a complete set?

You can buy a complete amal rebuild kit from Stead Fast Cycle in California. They have the filters, viton tipped float needles, gaskets, o-rings and needle keepers.

I bought a new set of ticklers from Bikes and Bits in Columbia, TN but have not put them on yet. They are supposed to be better than originals, just have not done it yet getting the bike running.
