What should my primary oil look like after 5000 km
Is this normal ?
No lumps just very metallic looking

primary oil

Strewth, that looks like silver paint!

Don’t panick though, not just yet anyhow, let the oil settle first, ideally over night or more. Air bubbles can look a lot like metallic particles. Sounds daft, but it’s true.

If it really is that bad, I’d be sending some oil off for proffesinal analysis to tell me what the particles are.

That oil was cold ,has settled over night looks a little better,
But not much ,might talk to the guys at work and see if they can send a sample away , might not want to here the results though ,least there were no chunky bits like last time when the clutch basket let go ,
Maybe that's where the Norton silver came from

Hello pingu-nz , Is the motor oil Ok ? Is this the same oil as the motor ? Could it be aluminum particles ? It looks so silvery. What brand of oil are you running ? Is it possible that the inside of the primary case had a coating on your bike ? You have more than 6000 miles on your bike now. How did the other oil changes look ? The Primary case is the transmission lubricant as well . I think you should get an analysis also. Maybe Norton can help here ?

Engine oil is fine ,primary oil has been changed at 1000km ,3000km ,7000km and now at 11000km
The first change was clean ,second change was when clutch basket let go so there were chunks of rivet and metal ,third was silvery ,this change well as you can see.
This was a cold change so the bike hadn't been running,so this is purely what has drained from a settled state.
Gearbox shifts fine, I am starting to notice when i take off the clutch seems to give a slight slip at the initial start.
Could it be normal clutch plate material from wear ?
Has anyone else noted what their primary oil has come out like?

cheers
Paul

I have changed mine 4 times at least. It comes out as carmel colered used oil . So this may have started after you got the clutch repaired ?

According to Norton service schedule my 11000 km equates to just over 6000 miles or 1 year expected mileage .
However the primary has had 3 0il changes in this time so ,
Certainly worth a dealership warranty look at why primary oil is in this condition.
Photos and email sent to Kevin waiting a response .

update on primary oil

Just changed primary oil again at 15000 km
Same silvery colour like silver paint
Clutch works as it should , no nasty clunks or bangs
Sent a email to Brisbane motorcycles with picture of oil, they have told me they will find out from the factory if any other bikes have the same issue, otherwise it will be primary cover off and see what is grinding away .
