What's the current thinking on the best primary belt drive kit/supplier for street use on an 850?
There are many out their to choose from..I'd like to keep my current gearing and if possible clutch.
Strength, reliability and cost are the factors.....would like to install and forget it's there (except for the periodic inspection/adjustment.

I got mine 12 years ago from Phil at http://fairsparesamerica.com/

I just replaced the original belt this past fall, not that it needed to, just thought I should

He may not be the cheapest, I am sure others will reply with more sources to check out

give him a call, he knows his stuff

I have a 40mm RGM kit. I have not used it yet, but from what I have seen, it is the kit that other places resell. Eaven after shipping it is cheaper to get it from RGM.

I too have the RGM unit ordered from them. Works as advertized. Get back to us once you get one of these, if you do, for tricks, tips and "look out for's". If your clutch center hub is good, this is the one to go for. Well worth the money. $386 USD

I was thinking about a belt kit too, but it knocks up the effective size of the sprocket by 2 which would give my 750 an effective 21 tooth sprocket. Not wanting to do that I have put it off. Does anyone know if the RGM kits are the same that Clubman, FairSpares etc are selling? OB has one but it's really up there in price. Can't say if it's any different either.

I know Frank at Clubman gets his kits from RGM. That is who I normally by mine from. Jim

PS gearing up the trans and going to a 19 tooth front sprocket works wonders for transmission longevity.

I found the 19 a little light, the 21 a little heavy and the 20 juuuuust right with the rgm kit. My motor is sort of modified though. Combatish, rather. 70 mph is around 4000rpm

RGM and Clubmans are the same. Unfortunately for Clubmans it's WAY cheaper to buy from RGM.

Other kits are more expensive because they include a clutch center.

If you buy from RGM you can also purchase a hardened aluminum clutch center and pressure plate. Much lighter all around. For those who like to save weight. They also sell a nice clutch pushrod improvment kit.

All good stuff. I have the pressure plate also. One pinky pull!

I have a 40mm RGM kit, clutch pushrod improvment and aluminum pressure plate. I was able to operate the little lever inside the trans cover easily by hand. I can't wait to get the bike together and running. Should work well.

I have been told that you need to put in a seal to keep trans lube out of the now dry primary. Is this included in the kits?
If not where do you get one?

Not included in the kits, or at least not the RGM one. I went with heavy grease on the pushrod. We'll see how that hold up.

I would NOT recommend this on a street bike and especially if you run the over weight bronze clutch plates.

I was an early adapter of the QPD primary belt drive. I put one on my 2nd Commndo I had in 1981... it ran and held up perfectly. Sold the bike in '89
He's been doing drive longer than anyone else around and should have the most experience and user feedback.
He also does a belt final drive and an electric start conversion for pre-MKIII's.

This is my 4th Commando since 1974, QPD would (should) give me confidence due to their longevity specializing in the singular product for a fairly long period of time.

Can someone tell me if I can get my early 750 to act like a 19 tooth sprocket with the RGM kit somehow. I really don't want that tall gearing, I'm not doing highway driving and will probably just be cruising around the country roads here at around 50-55mph. Maybe the best option is 3rd gear?
