I have been pleased with my Amal Premiers since I installed them a couple years ago.
The only changes I made from stock were smaller main jet (190), lowering needle, and raising the float level a tad. I live at 5k so air is a bit thin.
My Combat usually starts after 2-3 kicks (major tickling but no choke), but was very temperamental and reluctant to accelerate until well warmed up.
But in the interest of science :D I decided to get the Madass single cable solution piece, and change the pilot jet from 17 to 19. To say I am pleased with the result is an understatement. Bike now starts first kick virtually every time, is much more responsive even when cold, no popping when decelerating, and pulls smoothly and stronger than ever from 2k to redline.
A few $ and hours well spent! Actually more than a few, but who is counting. :p
If anyone decides to do both upgrades, you can save a bit of hassle by doing pilot jets first, then the Madass piece.
You can PM Don here @ Madass140
Got my pilot jets from Specialized Triumph Parts on ebay.

I would be curious as to which spray tube you have fitted.

Mike, they seem pretty good. Surface area calculated out surprisingly high all things considered.

They are the Amal screw on ones which are slightly larger than the clamp in ones, although you need to dremel a flat on the inside because the carbs are so close together.

I can see in due course that we may end up switching to an early commando air filter assembly, as it looks untidy around the battery box.

An EXCELLENT plan! It will also filter better! :)

I recently fitted Premiers to a 850 MkII and went with #19 pilots based on the comments in the forum. Runs and idles better than ever. Chased out all of the air leaks in the manifold/head / exhaust as part of the process. Pleased but waiting for the next maintenance item to pop up...
