I have been pleased with my Amal Premiers since I installed them a couple years ago.
The only changes I made from stock were smaller main jet (190), lowering needle, and raising the float level a tad. I live at 5k so air is a bit thin.
My Combat usually starts after 2-3 kicks (major tickling but no choke), but was very temperamental and reluctant to accelerate until well warmed up.
But in the interest of science I decided to get the Madass single cable solution piece, and change the pilot jet from 17 to 19. To say I am pleased with the result is an understatement. Bike now starts first kick virtually every time, is much more responsive even when cold, no popping when decelerating, and pulls smoothly and stronger than ever from 2k to redline.
A few $ and hours well spent! Actually more than a few, but who is counting.
If anyone decides to do both upgrades, you can save a bit of hassle by doing pilot jets first, then the Madass piece.
