i have a 71 with the earlier frame. this has a lug welded into the lower tube which appears to be where the side stand bolts on? i have the old britt's replacement stand and weld on tab. my questions is, should i grind the lug down enough to weld in the old britt's tab or try and use the older side stand mounting lug.
your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Doc

I have a 69 and the stands are murder with the old cigar exhausts. But it's a pity you couldn't get the part that fits I find that works best for me.

Best of luck

Hi,
me too have a 1971 with a early frame.
The question is: in the 1971, about june, they still mounted the early frame?.
Or the previous owners changed?.
Ciao.

That old mounting for the stand, not good IMO ... that is why Norton "improved" (changed) it. If it were mine, I would grind the lug down and weld on the old britt's tab. Cheers.

i believe this is a end of model change over and that frame was not replaced, but god only knows. i agree with idea of grinding down lug and installing the old britt's set up. any other thoughts and thanks for the info.

Was on the phone to AN today and the old brit weld on is the only way forward according to them ,I have a j plate with old frame ,still with the pump clips on mudguard loop . So it looks like we are both going to be doing some welding .
Cheers

When I got this frame back in 2002, the original side stand bracket was bent and broken. I don't recall that old Britts had the Norton type weld on bracket back then, so I had to figure my own fix. I had a bracket from a 1974 Honda CB750 welded on, and so use a Honda CB750 side stand. This also allows me to easily mount an extended CB750 side stand, for when I run 6" over front forks ... for nostalgia 1970s "easy rider" chopper feel 8) If you look close at the picture, you can see it. Just another option that works.

I have a NEW, unused OB weld-on tab that I'm not going to use and I will sell it.
