Well, my run of luck after fixing my clogged idle circuit hit a bump in the road today. I went for a ride and on the way home, Pop, pop, pop.... I sprayed some wd40 at the manifold as the bike idled in the driveway and the bike stumbled... Air leak! I disassmbled the intakes and it's not a leak in the gasket. I have a broken manifold. Luckily, I had another one in my parts bin, so I replaced the broken manifold. The original idle settings now need adjustment so the crack was probably there for a while prior to the manifold breaking completely...

Just another beautiful day.... par for the course for me...

When you get to the end, you start all over again.... Yes you have discovered the joys of Norton ownership.

I'd call that a really great day. You have found the root cause of the problem that could have annoyed you forever otherwise!

Can you describe the crack or post a photo?

I'm interested in how it failed; over tightened flange nut?

Yeah, I'd be interested to see it as well. I have an intermittent idle that's very similar to what you originally posted, and it's driven me nuts for a couple years now.

I probably overtightened the allen head bolt and cracked it. Then it was just a matter of time until the vibration broke it lose... The sound it made was the same sound you would hear if you have an exhaust leak. It went, Pop, pop, pop out of the tailpipe if you let off the throttle, but made no sound so long as you were accellerating..

Here's a picture of the latest gremlin...
Pop, pop, pop..... again.

yes, I have the correct insulators. I'm a large person... I would bet that I goosed the allen bolt a bit more than I should have.... and cracked the manifold
