Got some Emgo pistons with Hastings rings.
1 piston, circlips are fine, other they are loose, a smidge smaller.
Searched the posts here and see this is common.

Found some on the I net. Just received them.
They are made from smaller wire stock. The OD is fine, but they aren't as stout.
They appear to be household, hardware grade. Made by Hillman btw.
Will post pictures when I can.

Question, where does one source the correct, automotive circlips for our pistons?

I know this has been mentioned many times before, and you may already know but if these are stamped circlips which is highly likely, one side of the outer edge will be sharp and the other smooth. Make sure that when you install them the sharp edge is facing the bore, then they will have greater resistance to any side loads trying to force them out.

Cheers,

cliffa.

You mean folk don't lightly lap the ragged side before installation.

Edit the next day.

The piston grooves for the flat style circlips most likely have a radius even if tiny at the base.
If the ragged side of the circlip has any projection it can ride above that radius, a light lap will minimise that while still retaining the more favourable side without the slightly rolled outer edge... fwiw.

I find very few engine parts that are ready to go straight out of the packet.

I have a large quantity of the stainless circlips referenced in: https://www.mcmaster.com/91580A175, as posted by marinatlas. I will never use all of these. If any of you would like a set of 4 clips just send me a postage paid mailer of some kind and they are yours at no additional charge.

I would ask that you will be using these and not just collecting...

If interested send the addressed/postage paid mailer to me at:
