Got a new phone mount for my bike. Very pleased with it so far. Quick and easy mounting and holds the phone very securely.

God what's the world coming too when you have to mount a phone on the handle bars of a classic motorcycle, phones have their place but not mounted on the bike, I keep mine in the pocket when out on the bike and I also don't live by my phone, if someone calls when riding they will call back sooner than later or I phone them back when stopped, only if I know the caller, enough distraction on the roads now and having a phone on the bike is another distraction to me.

I didn’t get the phone mount to take calls. I got the phone mount primarily because I want to take some road trips and would like to use my phone for Google maps. The fuel tank on the roadster doesn’t have a large capacity and I don’t like being lost. Another great feature is since my Speedo drive gear has taken a shit is this speedometer app.

What App is that Larry?
I have used Speedbox to calibrate my Smiths electric speedo.
Cheers

I also use Google maps to plan rides, and use a phone mount. It is much easier to set up than a convential GPS when you want to stick to a very specific route. I plan my routes on my laptop, then send them in an e-mail to my phone - pull it up and go! I also have a USB charge port on the bars so that the screen can be kept on without draining the phone battery.

Yes I put a mount on my modern Bonneville and use it just for trip routing. I dont like relying on Google maps b/c it needs a data connection to fetch maps. Really like TomTom Go navigation app as it stores all country maps on the phone and also does live traffic/construction/red-light camera warnings when able to make data connections. You can get monthly or annual subscription plan for very reasonable cost (I'm at $27 USD for 12 months).

Interesting - might have to check out that app.

I have unlimited data and a pretty reasonable plan - so the data thing doesn't really bother me much. Coverage in Ontario is good too - very rarely hit big dead spots.

Cheers!

Stay safe if you do mount your phone on your bike Larry. It sounds like you are mounting an electronic map on the bars instead of pulling over to unfold one every 30 miles...I get that.
Don't get caught with your eyes down.

I am curious if cell phone will hold up to the prolonged vibration attached to the handlebars on a vintage motorcycle, id your phone goes bonkers share the story.

I have done a few thousand miles now with my phone mounted on my bike (iPhone SE Gen 2), using Google Maps as my navigation aid. Phone has stood up well.

I have set the Focus function to "Driving" so that I do not get any unwanted notifications, not that it has ever been tempting to use the phone as more than a map while driving. Better safe than sorry.

The best solution, IMO, is a dedicated GPS with handlebar mount. This Garmin Zumo 550 is motorcycle specific, weather proof, big buttons and glove friendly. It Bluetooth pairs to the phone in my pocket and to the wireless headset in my helmet so I get voice prompts. It came with a fused power wire that I ran from my ignition. I can upload routes from a map utility on my PC. It also has a trip meter and gas gage. It unclips easily from its mount so I can store it in my locked bag when I dismount. It's an old model but they still support it with annual map upgrades. It even plays MP3s for long trips.

I ran my phone on handlebar mount (Rhino mount type knock-off) from Vancouver BC to Ottawa ON and back (that's about 6k miles round trip). Never an issue....removed it if there was risk of rain and stowed in jacket. This was on a modern Bonneville, but vibes are not dissimilar to Norton.

I use Quadlock
Once you buy your phone specific case there are multiple options for mounting and even on bike charging.
Also I use this ring when not riding to make it easy for general phone use as they're more like mini tablets these days
