The spigot has a tulip or cone shape shape that fits into the petcock. What is that shape called and how do I make it?

I believe it's a conical union and is heat-formed with a special die. Much easier to buy new parts.

There could, of course, be many reasons for the leak, but in my case the spigot was bottoming out as I tightened the draw nut to make it seal. I had tightened it as hard as I dared, but the only evidence was an ever so slight flattening at the tip of one side of the cone. When I filed the tip down to prevent bottoming (easy to do -- the metal is soft) it sealed with no problem at all. I suspect you could take off quite a bit of material at the tip since there is so much area along the side of the cone to form a seal. Not suggesting you take off more than you need. Just a thought.

Not sure from your description, pictures would help. Perhaps a flaring tool (or is it swaging tool) would do the job you want.

Just a heads up before you start buying tools and materials and spending hours of your life on this...

A new plain brass spigot is £0.90 (90 pence) from RGM.

A new spigot and nut, both bright plated, is £2.50 from RGM.

Jus’ sayin’ ...

Looks conical to me.

good point

perhaps 30 years ago I could buy a fitting that worked well with a single mikuni...it made the routing of the fuel lines a lot cleaner than what is available now. This fitting had one vertical and one horizontal leg both barbed, and a captured nut. Since it is no longer available I will have to make one. This has taken years of aggravation to reach this point. I was hoping to find a hand tool that would make the cone or ball tip.

Hey I love to make stuff rather than buy it as well as anyone, but you'd have to make a bunch and sell them to recoup the cost of tooling up compared to breaking down and spending a couple bucks for new parts.

I cannot buy what I want. I have ordered a pair of spigots and nuts, it appears that I might have enough length to silver solder on the right angle tube I want...no intention of selling...several hours involved. If I have more than $30 involved I will pull the plug.
