(side note) -- don't want to get into alton vs. others thing. I had my reasons and what's done is done.

5 stars! finished up the alton starter on the 74 - overall a really nice kit and everything seemed to be well made and top shelf. the nuts and bolts end of the installation was easy and without issues. the electrics gave me somewhat of a challenge trying to fit a larger battery and finding the ideal location for the starter relay. had to take half the bike apart to rework the battery tray. once everything was sorted, it all came together. kit was $2250 + a new battery, but well worth the investment. the only issue, the replacement inner primary case was not polished like my OE factory case. this may be an ordering option - don't know, but I spent about 4 hours sanding and polishing to get the factory look. first crank on a cold engine, and started within a second or so. my arthritic knee is happy and grateful!

BTW, when things were apart, I replaced my horn with this assembly. it was a PERFECT fit in the original horn cavity - Amazon product ASIN B07V5J7VN9 . gooden loud!!!

Mine always makes me smile when I press the button and it throws the engine over so well. Only criticism I have of the kit is the puny alternator they supply. 150 watts just ain't enough.

good point - not sure there's much that can be done about it, since no other option is available. i'm thinking, as long as you're not on the starter for an excessive amount of time, current draw should be brief during actual cranking, so as long as the battery is healthy, has sufficient amp hours/cold cranking amp rating, and adequate run time for charging, hopefully 150W won't be a problem. alton specs an 18Ah rated battery - I went with a 20Ah/240CCA unit.

Good to see it has all come together, and nice work on the polishing of the inner primary case.

thanks - didn't go for a super shine - went to 800 grit w/ polish. when I removed my original case, noted that it was only polished on the forward and upper surface. bottom and aft, sections not normally seen were still somewhat in a cast finish. I watched a series of videos by the Oregon folks on the e-start installation and it seems their case was polished from alton.
