Hello all , decided to get back with the resto and buy an electronic iginition to replace the Boyer
Ive been waiting and reading various reviews and have decided on the Pazon, but after emailing them just after xmas they done have anyone stocking them in the UK

Unless anyone knows differently? I was told I can order direct and get it shipped but like to buy from a UK stockist if possible
If not then I will order and import it

thanks
Matt

I got 2 so far direct from Pazon in New Zealand - ordered on-line and with free shipping. They each arrived in about a week. Go to: http://www.pazon.com/

I searched around and could not find a better price.

Thanks all for the info
as mentioned I will buy off them directly as the price is the best and any problems I can go back to them as well

ALTHOUGH the sure fire being an older system is 100 bucks less , is it worth paying the extra or is the surefire good enough ?

i will post a thread once its here and fitted to see how it compares to the boyer on tickover

hi, I am running a Sure Fire on my std '73 850 and set at 31 degrees @ 4000 rpm, absolutely no issue and made a world of difference overall. Starts first time, fat blue spark and pulls excellent over the rev range and easy to fit. No condensors, no ballast resistor, no points or AAU and just power off your ignition wire that went to your ballast resistor. I installed 2 x new 6volt coils as the bike came with 2 x old 12 volt with the resistance reading a bit dodgy in one of them. Pazon module is compact and will fit up under the coil bracket nice and tidy.

I've got almost 6,000 miles on my Pazon Sure Fire and totally happy with it.
Installation and set up was simple and I have great performance and it will keep fully retarded with battery down to 8 volts for kickback free starting.
Starts easy and will idle nicely down to 600 rpm.
I bought mine direct from Pazon and came very quickly.

The altair arrived at the weekend,so as it was quiet at work today I took the old boyer system off and wired in the new Altair
Soldered all the connectors and set the timing,at 30 deg as per the instructions
Didnt get any further as the HT leads I had fitted were carbon ones and it says not to use those, picked up a couple of copper cored cables on the way home so will cut the incorrect ends off and fit the nice new caps supplied with the kit

Then its tank back on and see how it goes!

Has anyone needed to do the strobe timing ? or has the static been accurate enough?
cheers

Static timing is a starting point and some systems like the Altair are better at it than others. Timing is critical and should be validated with a stroboscope.

I static timed mine after the PAZON installation, bike started straight away and was retarded, had a friend hold the throttle open at 4000rpm , dialled in the PAZON plate using a good quality strobe light and separate battery to power the strobe. Aimed for 31 degress, not having a degree disc, cant verify what the actual degree setting is, but it is close to 31 using the timing protractor in the primary chaincase cover. Haven't need to touch it since installation in Sept 2010, bike is a first kick starter and runs smooth through to 5200 rpm as I havent had the need to rev it any ahrder than that.(yet)

Finally got to get the ignition timing sorted out this afternoon , strobe timed it and set it to 30-31 deg using the degree wheel in the crankcase
It starts 1st kick when warm and now has a reasonably even tick over
It is popping through the l/h cylinder on over run ,also that carb mixture screw seems to have little effect , so I may have to try another clean out of the idle jet
,the exhaust note on that cylinder is definitely more noisy and hard to explain but not quite as smooth(you can feel /hear the air pressure waves are much stronger/pulsing) if that makes sense

It does seem good enought to actually ride for the first time !

Im wondering if these symptoms could be carb wear,or what are the symptoms of carb wear?

i really need to actually ride it I think as its not really been ridden for a long time now so Im hoping a few miles might smooth it out a little

If the running a little rough is on one cylinder I'm having a hard time understanding how it could be carburetor since carb serves both cylinders equaly.
I'd switch one at a time side to side plug leads, spark plugs then coils.
If problem shifts to other cylinder you will know its source.
Is the plug on that side showing any sign of oiling?
