Hey guys,
Nearly finished another bike of mine, and had an idea to put up a thread that hopefully saves some disappointment. I'm sure most of you have been in the same boat as me where you buy something brand new with the expectation of it working fine, and somehow you end up putting on a 40+ year old part that's snottier than a 4 year old kid's hand back on the bike. Mainly referring to pattern or other "direct replacement parts" that end up being complete junk.
For me, a few off the top of my head:
- EMGO repro pull throttles. The feel is super sloppy on some of them and the adjustment setup is interesting to say the least.
- Those stupid plastic 2-1 cable pull converters. Hate the cheapness, fitment and function of the new ones. Found that out of 3, 2 couldn't accept doherty cables or the originals in them.
- Doherty Throttle/Choke Cables: Found that the newer ones had to have a bunch of flash removed from the ends that go into the cable box in order to work.
- Cheap versions of the original petcocks. If I wanted a petcock that leaks like a sieve, I'd have just stuck with the older ones!
List goes on, but I figure I'd get the ball rolling!
