Hi fellas,

I have owned a 750 Interstate for the last 35 years. The bike was brought into Western Australia from England, sold to a bike shop here, and I subsequently bought it. My question is, am I able to find out who purchased the bike new in England and if so how do I go about finding the information?

Cheers, Neil

Extremely unlikely.

The DVLA only divulge such information if there is 'reasonable cause' to do so. As the vehicle is no longer registered in the UK then they won't want to know.

Information about registered keepers
You must write to DVLA to request information about the current or previous registered keeper of a vehicle.

(The 'registered keeper' isn't always the actual 'owner').

Data protection will stop any request stone dead, DVLA and dealers cannot just give owners info out without permission., a NOC posting in their monthly Roadholder is the only hope.

And for that the original UK registration number would need to be known as the chance of someone identifying a bike they sold 35+ years ago by the engine/frame number would be very slim.

The factory record from AN states the original selling dealer, but not the owner

Data protection is very selective & dosn't seem to apply to car parking companies who seem to be able to get hold of a keepers details easily.

No kidding. There has to be some sleazy business going on there...
