Ordering from Andover Norton (2020)

I ordered an item from UK eBay that was shipped Royal Mail / USPS and it did show up, after about 2 weeks. I too would have paid extra for air mail if it was available.
For many years international postal has been shipped by air. Some sort of international postal agreement. I find the big problem is customs. Those people are as slow as the second coming.

USPS is hurtin'. I've had 3 day Priority Mail take 6 days.
I hear you. I commented to the lady at the counter at my local post office about paying for Priority shipping to New Mexico and that it was going to take 5 days to go 600 miles. It's the coved thing taking away people who sort and handle packages so she said. Nothing I could do and getting mad at her or anyone else won't make it get there any faster.

Just had a great experience with Andover Norton.I placed an order July 14 at 3:00pm ET and received it today Sunday July 19 at 2:45pm ET
Delivered by DHL

Yes, when it shipped via DHL it gets here fast. The point I'm trying to make is that you don't get to choose how it gets shipped. If it goes Royal Mail/USPS it can take a month and you don't know how it is going to ship until after you order.

USPS leaving the states is also a bit variable. Even before the virus thing I had parcels from CNW go to San Francisco then to Japan, back to San Francisco and then finally to NZ.

If it has to go into NZ customs for duty to be paid then it will take another 2 weeks. DHL can do their own customs clearance so it usually takes less than a day.

Andover to NZ is ok. It takes a bit of time to get through Dubai but once it get to Auckland NZ has basically got no issues with the virus now. So life is back to normal inside the country now.

Most post and small parcels are actually flown around the world in the cargo bellies of passenger aircraft. The current lack of passengers mean huge lack of flights, grounded planes, cancelled routes, etc, etc.

In other words, it’s a nightmare.

Frankly, it’s a miracle that things are actually running as well as they are.

Shoot me for going non m/c here, but recently had two CDs sent from US to UK, both allegedly USPS tracked at similar cost... First one arrived within seven days, when the other didn't I enquired and was told to expect up to eight weeks!

One thing I forgot to mention about my Andover Norton transaction.I paid with paypal and they charged me almost 5% to do the currency exchange what a ripoff. Not Andovers fault was my own stupidity for not researching before using paypal.Lesson learned.

OK, I just Placed an order with Andover and asked in the comments at the end if they could ship DSL. Lets see what happens, hope it's not outrages. LOL

I finally got my package yesterday. Just short of a month. So the choice (not really a choice as there wasn't one) is either 3 days via DHL or 30 days via the mail.

Just leave a message on the last page and they get back to you on how much more it costs. For my recent order it was $15.00 more to ship DHL.

I think it's worth it if you need it right away, But it's easy enough to do when you place your order. Just wanted to see if it would that way. Maybe at some point they might add that as an option you could click on while ordering?

I also use PayPal, but you have the option to send Pounds or other currencies. PayPal exchange rates favor them a bit, but you can check to see, roughly, what their "cut" is by going to: https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/ first. Years ago I used my company MasterCard and learned a similar lesson when I got hit with a "foreign transaction fee" and a currency exchange charge; more than 5%.

I have also done wire transfers which my bank charges $10 for; based on my purchase this ends up about 2%. This requires that I go to the bank and isn't always convenient time wise. No matter how you cut it the money people always get a piece of the action.

If you are spending in the $500 + area the wire transfers are your best bet.

Best.
