only in America bagger racing

For those guys that must be like going round the track in the race transporter !!

Imagine being on your R1 on a track day, thinking you’re hot stuff, then some dude comes around the outside of you on a bagger !

Love it !!

We rode it ....we didn't destroy it!
It was a sucessful day
LOL
Almost as fast as a stock commando?

Like riding a two-stroke production racer and being beaten by a Commando ? Nigel, when you can do that often, you have arrived.

According to somebody who knows somebody who knows.
The Indian won because the Harley frame was too flimsy. Then the power advantage didn't matter.

Don't know about the Harley "race" bikes but the production models they are based on have an arrangement similar to the isolastics used on some other bike.

Under normal circumstances a race bike which is simply a converted road bike, is usually unsatisfactory for historic racing fora few reasons. 1. The the steering geometry is usually designed to avoid crashes rather than being nimble or even over-steering. 2. Weight-saving is difficult. 3. The gearbox is deigned for flexibility rather than performance.
A production racer is always better, but a works racer usually reigns supreme because it has all the trick bits which nobody else can get.
What is a Harley ? - Not even an attempt ! - Like playing tennis while wearing snow shoes ?

Yeah, and turns out Indian makes the best snowshoes for Tennis.

Well I’d LOVE to rock up at a track day and do that on my Dyna.

But I rather suspect the video of me doing so might turn out somewhat shorter, and end with me in the gravel...!

I shall try and refrain.

A few years ago I was talking to a chap who was doing a track day at Donington Park on his Ducati and he said he was really trying as he went through Craner Curves on a hot lap. He felt he was on the limit but suddenly found an old guy on a Gold Wing riding past him on the outside. Somewhat crestfallen he was relating this to his mate when the chap on the Wing parked up and removed his helmet. No surprise he was passed, it was Ron Haslam.

or even worse about 18 seconds into the video

one question, HTF do these Harley's get round the race track in possibility a decent time when leaning over anything like 39 degrees will have all sorts of the undercarriage kissing the tarmac ?

Ask acotrel, he could beat Marquez, Rossi et al while cornering perfectly upright on 30 year old tyres etc, etc, etc

Take a good look at those bikes at the starting line, their geometry is not stock.
They are lifted, floor boards removed..........
