I rang up Mick Hemmings Motorcycles this morning and got Angie on the phone. As if it isn't bad enough that I had to make the call at 4:00 a.m. local time, I found out I also had to answer a number of questions regarding my qualifications to be a Norton parts buyer. I thought for a moment that perhaps I had wandered into a Monty Python skit. I told Angie that I was calling from the U.S., as if it wasn't obvious from my accent and she asked me innocently enough if I read "the forums". "Oh yes, of course." was my immediate reply. Perhaps I should have said, "What forums?", but as I said it was 4:00 a.m. here and I wasn't really prepared.
"Oh", she said "Yer one of those are you?" She didn't say "idiots" or "wankers" but I could hear it in her voice. I cringed. But interestingly enough I did find out that she is a regular lurker (that's "lurker" you letches!) at Access Norton. She wouldn't sell me the vernier isolastic caps for my project until I told her my user name. She claimed it was so she could ring me up in the event I needed help, but I suspect it was so she could laugh at me with more authority when I called for parts in the future. Sadly, I failed to convince her to join.
However, Angie, this thread is dedicated to you so that you can have something to read in the evening. As you have an interest in who your customers are here is a photo of my project bike the day I brought it home and the bike for which the vernier isolatics are going to be used.
Below is a photo of my 750 in my driveway. The driveway is a half-mile long trail through the forest and the Commando is the only vehicle I have that gets used on it, other than my Honda snowblower!
I have this goofy idea that I want to spend my money with businesses that improve my lifestyle. Mick Hemmings Motorcycles certainly fits that criteria. Just make sure you know the difference between a European Swallow and an African Swallow before you make that call, otherwise you may have trouble with the bridge keeper!
Happy Holidays,
Russ
