The FIRST item I bought for the bike, was this excellent gage, to evaluate/reassure a sound bottom end, my budget was snug.
Fit & has worked perfectly....

The answer, would be simple, remove it, trim it, yoke tube too... gain a 1/4”

There is a heli-coil in the aluminum tube.
NP, I have M8, 5/16”-18 heli’s on hand...
But, the thread verification confirmed neither was correct... roh-roe
 
Call or email Fred (Eaton) at OldBritts. They are great people and I'm sure he will be able to tell you the thread pattern (or maybe even be able to send you a slightly shortened section).
 
A bump for an old thread for folk using this gauge kit.
What is the routing of the oil line (please) and if between the frame down tubes no contact problems ?
 
Thanks, I had found that page and wondered how it went long term with the hose between the down tubes lock to lock.
I can't mount the hose until I get a 5/16 tap tomorrow, maybe just a protective something over the hose at that location is all it needs.
 
..or how to create the weakest link in your lubrication system.
Good to have a pressure gauge: It will tell you when all that extra plumbing fails..
 
The chance of this leaking with only two independent hoses at the cylinder head (one for rocker feed and one for the gauge) would be near impossible unless the gauge itself failed.

One high quality hose from the stand pipe lower to the left hand side of the cylinder head (two single banjo's)
One Venhill hose from the right hand side of the head to the timing cover oil feed port. (Two single banjo's)
One 1/8 NPT mechanical joint at the gauge and stainless steel stand pipe top.

This is not a OB kit just a query on the feed hose method.

It is well made.
If you build your engine with the same precision and attention to detail, but without the gage, the chance for leaking and failure would be even less..
 
I guess it's a personal view, between risk / benefit. I haven't heard of them failing, but the odd story of them proving useful. I like the idea of one (and an ameter). I have a 63yo car and use these (and the temp guage), especially after a winter lay-up.
 
Trending.
Not about carving a corner at WOT, and seeing the needle drop to zero, but seeing what/when the trend is.
