Just got her sorted out and went out on a maiden voyage. Put about 10 miles on her. I cannot believe the pull that she has through all the gears.
I had struggled with getting the time to get the bike back together and running well. I did a couple shots around the block but had to go back and do some adjustments and find the time to get it properly tuned in. I had seriously considered selling it. Was not sure I was cut out or patient enough to put the time in.
Well, a couple weeks ago I took a ride with a guy from town that has the exact same 1974 Commando. I was on my 1980 Goldwing (...let it go
).
Anyway, riding behind that bike gave me renewed inspiration to get mine going. I put the time in over the last few weeks and it has been very rewarding.
Last night, buzzing around and letting her rip was exhilarating to say the least. My grandson, who is in my sig pic, already calls it his own. When he sits on it and does the vroom vroom sounds, I ask him whose it is, and he says "Isaiah's" in a very solemn tone. It will be waiting for him.
I do want to thank all who have gone before me and posted so much information here and helped when I had specific questions. It is an invaluable resource. Another thank you specifically to Skyguyz. He gave me a great deal on the Mikuni that he was no longer using and followed up and sent a couple additional parts. It is performing perfectly.
Pictures and video soon although we are expecting rain the next three days.
