Just curious, who changes their oil filter every time or every other time?

Also, it's summer. 40 or 50 weight engine oil?

Every 2nd oil change, approx 5,000Kms / 3,000 Miles. Same oil Penrite Enduro 30-60. Australian seasons permit all year riding.

hehe got ya thinking eh. Consider the size of engines involved and parts to wear and length of era bikes had no filter but screens and sludge traps. I know what I found in Peel sludge trap with too frequent oil and filter changes on Mobil 1 every 1000 miles or so for 7000 miles and lost a whole bunch of respect for value of filtering. There is a particle size below which its non significant to wear spaces and get through filters to collect as dust where ever its stagnant and get heated into semi ceramic with the carbon sludge.

On first starts rebuild I change filter after first few minutes with first oil change and inspect filter for bad ju ju evidence.

After that 4-6 oil changes- which worked out d/t bad karma to be once every year to over 3. Top offs help keep oil fresher too. In my V8 - V6 cages I change filter once a year after two oil changes, ~12000-16000 mile total a year.

a pretty picture for a dirty plain text subject.
Oil filter change polling question?

Every 2nd oil change. Change oil every 1500 miles. I figure its a big oil filter with low oil flow.

Every time. This is once a year for me - about 1000 mi.

1000 mile oil changes and change the filter every time. Oil and filters are cheap. Engine rebuilds are not.

Changing the filter every second time is like washing your arse and putting your three week old dirty underwear back on.

An oil filter or fuel filter works better as it filters out impurities to a point, because the pores in the filter get finer. But I still cant bring myself to contaminate (darken) new oil with a dirty filter, so its changed aswell, ALWAYS!
Got to agree with FULLAUTO! Thats also what some people do for a crust, wear the same undies for a week!

Wear undies? I thought this was a Commando forum?

Change undies every day?

What?

Turn them inside out and get a couple days more before washing.

I change filters with every oil change: Motorcycle, Cars, Boats, bulldozers...... when it gets where I can't afford the 10 bucks for a filter, I need to stop riding.

Just changed engine oil. Valvoline motorcycle specific 20-50 non synthetic $4/quart with new Fram 3614 filter.

All is well again in the world.

Look, this is the final word on underwear changes.

Four days only. Frontwards, backwards, inside out frontwards, inside out backwards. Any more than that is quite gross.

I do the first oil changes a couple of hundred miles apart, then every 1,000 miles with filter.

One thing that will reduce the need for oil changes is doing the oil change properly.

I ride the bike, get it nice and hot, then as soon as my foot hits the ground in the garage, I use an oil extractor to suck out the oil from the bottom of the oil tank, you will be surprised at the amount of crud you can remove from the bottom of the tank.

Undies, also four days, frontwards, backwards, inside out frontwards and inside out backwards.
