I have used the Hastings brand with the ring expander that won't overlap, (shown on the right). And now a Coventry Spares branded set of rings has the type (shown on the left), and it will overlap unless you take very special care. Does anyone have any opinion on which will perform better? Any experience with both, fail or success? Performance meaning oil control, longevity.

Hello
I’m putting my 850 together and I’m having a hard time installing the Coventry spares rings you asked about. Did you wind up using them ?

I found the Hastings oil control rings very hard to compress and insert into the cylinder.

So far, no problems, but also, not many miles.

Slick

Thanks
Got them in yesterday. I really had to tighten the ring compressor to get them in. I almost gave up.
