I got growing collection of failed components engine to drive train to signals to bars and tires. Its like left overs from old relationships, happy times ending badly. What should we do with these things? Burt Munroe had his shelves of speed scaraficed artifacts but mine ain't near as extensive. Anyone got enough on hand to be impressive that I could send some more to add to their museums chilling collection? Crank cheeks and flywheel, rods and pistons and valves, axles and bearings and sprockets, even seat base and covers I don't care to see cluttering memory and space anymore.

Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

Winning this one ain't exactly like wining a contest prize, more like being tagged to receive others unwanted wastes. But now I'm coffee'd up I see AccessNorton as a place to leave records of failed memories. You've got a couple of worthy ones at both ends we don't often get to see and feel, so I'd count those with blown gaskets and flattened cam lobes.

On the plus side it got me home, noisy, and when the pieces fell I couldn't turn it over.

Oh yes Brent show us the dirty laundry! Note that if the rod had eventually broken it would of been blamed by the un-believers.

Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

my old boss used to race boats, which i think just ran small block chevy's, his brother in law was his co-pilot, and his one big job was to turn on the pump to supply water to cool the motor. of course he forgot and grenaded the motor, so after rebuilding my boss had a trophy made from all the shattered bits to give to his brother in law. maybe you need to build a trophy that you can give to the best build on the board each year

that's a clever idea kev but the hardest restore should get something new and shiney and who'd want the junk trophy to explain away. I'm taking a reallly shot pair of peashooters to hang with old Harley items in a biker bar.

Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

Here's a photo of mine Steve. It's all I'm keeping of it 'cause I got way TOO much stuff in my garage!! Upper right hand corner are cast iron pieces of the barrels bottom skirt area, lower right hand corner are aluminum pieces of the busted out primary side crank case. And in the center are probably the culprit --broken rod bolt pieces. It's from my other '75, basket case project bike Cj

C J , if youre up there past the Kyber Pass , they got a pile of Fairey foxes or suchlike out of there . Non Existant ones . But they Are Now . Extant even .
There was the Odd Rolls Royce or two as well . This Stuff dated back from the 1920s .

Keep an eye out for 16 H s and Commandos on the Junk Piles , :P you never know whats up there . The odd Cossak / Ural / Dnieper maybe . :P
I believe it pays to ask first though . They say the middle east is littered with cast of supercars . A Pom bought the Iraqi police junk pile years back ,
about 20 T160s and Commandos .

screw that i would take a hobot shrapnel trophy. maybe start your own contest every year where people submit videos taking their nortons off road, or hitting elk or something

Take all the fragments and set them on a coffee table with a 1" dam around it's edge and pour Lucite over them.

Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

The memorabilia mark moments to over come over weeks to month to seasons to years in my case. Here's a more minor show stopper. Maybe the coffee table art idea could be sent to Barber's museum and conversation piece.

Gee Matt you know your geography pretty good there,,,,,, I'd heard of the Khyber pass but really had no Idea where it was, I had to look it up on Google. I'm farther north than Khyber, up in Mazari Sharif on camp Marmal and I have no desire to go outside the wire. I'm content to stay on base and wrench on helicopters. I used to go to all the junk yards in Houston back in my younger days and that's where I bought my first Norton project a '69 frame for about 30 bucks, then later an engine for about 20 at a different yard, got an oil tank for about 5 and a rear fender for another five. Before I got my MKIII, when ever I'd talk about my Norton my wife used to jab at me saying "you mean your parts of Norton" Anyway I have enough projects and will only keep the photos of my broken bike bits. Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

One wonders if theres anyone in melbourne that isnt on drugs , at times .

Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

Spot of Matt`s welding on that crown, followed by a lick o` the old angle grinder to get it flush, & pop it back in, no worries...may want to check the timing though..

Re: Objects scaraficed for speed and ill fates?

Need better specs Matt, no need for valve flycuts on an H2 piston,& the transfer cutaways are in the skirt, not the crown..
