Chaps,
I spoke to Chris today, new owner at Nourish Engineering. He is up and running a bit now.

He will be making cranks in batches going forwards to improve costs, lead time will be around 10 weeks. Cost will be £1100 plus VAT.

Nice to know that the billet crank option will still be there, even for those mere mortals (like me) who can't carve their own!

Email address is info@nourishengineering.co.uk

Lets hope he makes it work.

I know the guy who was machining cranks for Dave part time before he retired from his full time job in the aircraft industry. ...the issue is that the cranks people want are all different, and that is why Dave stopped doing them other than for his own engine builds.

There was an article in one of the UK classic mags last year that did an interview with Dave before he retired, he said the same.....there are countless variations on Weslake cranks in terms of stroke and angle.

He could end up with a lot of stock! Cost is a bit lower than Maney 3 piece.

At least Norton ones will be fairly consistent on stroke requirements, and two variations on angle, standard at 360 and 90. I hear a few prefer the heavy weight of the Nourish crank.

The machinist told me he went in one Friday toward the end to make 3 cranks, 2 360 and 1 90.....when he finished he had 2 90 and 1 360!

Even though they're intending to put them through in batches (mainly to save on logistics and out sourced processes), the new guys are working on a made to order basis I gather (they may perhaps stock some high runners) and are offering a choice of strokes and angles. Got me thinking about a nice 93mm billet Norton crank... But then I slapped myself... I do that a lot... should do it more...

This is geared up for long term projects :)

When I bought my 80.4 crank from Steve he said, yes I have two on the shelf.....so there will still be one next month then I ask....he says....I could sell them both tomorrow, or not for 2 years, but when I sell them it's unlikely I will make more for two years from then.....

Batches to order means you place your order and wait till say 4 others do!, then wait while they make them.....

But good to hear Nourish will continue and that cranks will be made for Nortons.

Good option.

Yes Steve, I think that a customer would have to wait until there were enough other customers to make a batch viable, but it seems that cranks is actually the core of the Nourish business, so I don't think there'd be a long wait. And I get the feeling that once the batch was in process, the lead time will be far more reliable than it has been in the past.
