I have an NOS Akront wheel (18" 2.15) that came with a Commando I bought a number of years ago. I am just getting around to lacing it up to a cush drive rear hub. The spoke holes are too small for the SS spoke nipples and need to be drilled/reamed out. Anybody done this with a hand held drill?
Thanks,
Mick

Having done a good bit of research before buying my new wheels (not Akront) you have to make sure it's actually drilled/punched for a Norton hub; drum wheels are different from disk brake wheels; if the angles aren't right, it won't work properly.

Although no guarantee, the previous owner bought the wheel for the Commando and the drum brake hub part number is written inside the wheel.
Thanks,
Mick

How much bigger do the holes have to be and do they appear to be angled? Maybe check with the experts at Buchanans. I bought a set of Akronts from them along with SS spokes. This was in the mid 70s. Rear was WM3-18 same size as the one you got. Heck I'd just send it to them and it will be right.
