The two rubbers in my Norvil Type Head Steady are falling apart. Can anyone confirm that they are the same as the rear isolastic rubbers?

Ian

The front and rear ISOs did their job before fitting the Norvil steady complete with its rubbers, so they'll continue to do the same job with the Norvil steady fitted without its rubbers. I would have thought.
Link and puck steadies don't require extra rubbers.

Ah. Well my Norvil Head Steady has been fine with the rubbers for 30+ years so don't see a reason to change to something that "might" be ok.

I've got one in a box here. It will take a little while to dig into it but I will if no one else has information. I could measure it and compare it to the forward isolastic mount, which I think is the same diameter.

Thanks but don't worry too much. I have now discovered that my cam is worn so will be stripping down a lot more than I first planned! I can measure the iso's myself. Oh hum.

For the record, just in case. Below is a photo of the unit I have which I believe to be a Norvil headsteady. It's inside diameter is the same as the rear isolastic tube on the cradle. The above was a "senior" moment. It is definitely smaller than the front tube.

Yes it is the rear one. 1-3/4 approx and front is over 2".
The norvil style top iso will slightly support some additional weight & thrust.

separate:
The thing I have learned is that, when the bike is left on the side stand for a long time, the lower iso's take a set.
The set in the rubbers makes the engine/tranny/cradle sit a bit crooked (to the side) from it's original position.
This was discovered at a removal of the headsteady and found the engine tilted a bit and the engine had to be stressed to get the 3 head steady holes to line up on top of the head.
Further, this side load made the chassis vibrate more due to the side thrust through the top iso washers.
therefore:
The side thrust vibrations would therefore also happen in a link type mount.

When first installed 1988? the norvil was 100% ok by me.

I imagine that the head steady spring helps some with that onesided side stand long term rubber compression problem.
